Week 3 Ends with a small loss

Apr 10, 2007

Well, I lost 0.8 pounds last week.  Maybe this is a sign that things are beginning to move again.  I sure hope so.  I tried some additional foods this week: crabcakes (ate them too fast so they came right back up), shrimp, ham, squash, chili, tuna sashimi, a sugar free strawberry trifle, peanut butter protein balls, chicken with rice soup.  I am really not having any issues with food at all.  I just can't seem to lose much more weight.  Maybe I have lost all that I am going to lose for the first month.  If I can lose the same amount next month, that will be totally awesome.  Even if I don't lose that much, any loss will be welcomed.  I am going to call Jeannie at Dr. W's office to see if I can begin working out more strenuously yet.  I think that would get my metabolism moving again.

2 weeks Post-Op

Apr 05, 2007

April 5, 2007
Well, nothing to report really.  I haven't lost any weight since starting soft foods.  I was concerned, but it seems that it is fairly common after losing so much weight during the first week.  I have lost 20 pounds so far (woohoo!) and have sworn off the scale except for 1 time each week on Wednesday.  I am tolerating all allowed food so far - eggs, egg beaters, light cheeses, cottage cheese, yogurt, tuna, chicken, corned beef (deli meat), shrimp, white fish, refried beans, skim milk, chili (lowfat), broccoli, peaches, and more.  I cannot tolerate Crystal Light or sugar free popsicles - they are way too sweet.  I am getting in my 60g of protein and 64 oz. of water everyday without any problems.  The hardest thing for me is waiting 30 minutes after I eat to have a drink. I literally set the timer so that as soon as 30 min is up, I rush to the kitchen to get my water and have a sip.  I am taking my vitamins, B-12, Calcium, actigall, and pepsid everyday without problem.  I am exercising everyday.  Yesterday I was able to do 4 miles at 4 mph on the treadmill.  I was wiped out last night, but It felt good to be a little stiff from exercise this morning.  I also felt like I probably lost some weight yesterday.  I am looking forward to being able to work out more strenuously in a few weeks.
I am cooking Easter Dinner for my whole family this weekend.  That should be interesting.  We always have a huge spread with lots of really fattening food.  I am changing things up a bit this year - scaling back on the amount of food and the fat content.  I wonder how they will all react.  I am especially wondering how they will react when they see my little 2 ounce portion that I eat for dinner.
I am still in shock at how easy this has been for me.  I have not had one problem at all other than my ridiculous frustration at not losing any weight at all during week 2.  When I look at the big picture and see that I have lost 20 pounds since March 15, 2007, I think that is pretty darn good.  Hopefully I will lose some more before my first month is over, but if I don't that's okay.  It's still 20 pounds in 1 month and that's a lot.  I need to start a chart somewhere to track my weekly ups and downs in the weight department.  I just have to figure out where I can put it so I can get ot easily each week.  Well, that's is for this week.  More to come next Wednesday or Thursday.

Moving on to Soft Foods

Mar 27, 2007

Tuesday, March 27, 2007

I had my one week post op appointment today (1 day early).  Dr. W says that I am going to be one of his star patients.  I hope I don't let him down.  I have lost 15 pounds in one week accoding to his scale.  He is allowing me to move onto soft foods.  I am very excited!  I am going to try some refried beans and cheese for my first soft meal.

The refried beans, cheese, and salsa were AWESOME!!!!  It felt so good to eat something solid again.  In addition to that I am down to 223 pounds this morning - that's a loss of 20.2 pounds since March 15th.  So far today I have had a vitamin and my b12 and 10 oz water, and 1 protein drink (strawberry designer whey and  8 oz. skim milk).  I went for a 1 mile walk at 6:30 this am.  I feel great although in need of a little nap very soon I think.  I am going to try an egg with a little cheese later on this morning  to see how that goes down.  Everything is going so well.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to be so easy for me.

I'm officially a LOSER!!!!

Well, I am home, finally!  I was released from the hospital Friday morning after a very uneventful stay.  My surgery went very well.  In fact, Dr. Wohlgemuth said that I was the easiest that he has done to date.  He finished in only 1 hour and 10 minutes because as he put it, "my insides are so beautiful!"  What a hoot!  He cracks me up!  Anyway - I never really experienced much pain - I was walking around the floor at the hospital within a few hours of getting to my room.  I was up to 6 laps around the floor before the next morning.  I never felt nauseous, gaseous or anything.  My nursing care was wonderful!  I was definitely ready to go home on Friday, but couldn't quite get there because the renovations on my house were not complete.  So I have been at my mother's house until this afternoon.  I came home, showered, and went to my middle child's school play.  She did a great job, but it totally exhausted me.  So I have been resting most of the afternoon since then.  I am concerned because I don't feel full ever, and I am not sure if I should at this point.  I am making sure to get in at least 64 oz. of liquid each day and as much protein as I can, but I don't feel full.  It's weird.
Anyway, I 'm not gonna sweat it - I've already lost a total of 18 pounds!!!  Woohooo!!
Thanks to all of my OH friends who called, sent messages, and left wonderful posts wishing me a speedy recovery.  It means so much to me to know that you guys are in my corner fighting this battle with me!  Ya'll are the best!!!!

I'm feeling alittle tired still so I am going to post this on the lightweight and Virginia boards and then hit the hay for the night!  Thanks again averyone!

Tomorrow is the Big Day!!!!

I just got home from my all day preop education class and my preop appt. with Dr. Wohlgemuth.  Everything went fine!  Dr. W says it should be a very easy and uneventful operation since I have no major health issues.  He was funny - he told me to go get a good night's rest because he was goin' out on the town for a night of heavy drinking!  I cracked up and told him I was glad to know that he'll have such steady hands and clear judgement for my operation and even more happy that I am not the first surgery tomorrow moning!  We both had a good laugh!  He has such a great sense of humor, is so caring, skilled, and knowledgable.  I am so glad that I picked him and stuck with him.  I have to go pick up my scopolomine patches (to prevent nausea), my loritab elixer (pain med), my pepsid (or is it prilosec???) to prevent ulcers, and my med to prevent gallstones.  I will place the patch behind my ear tonight and then change it every 3 days to try to keep me from feeling any post op nausea.  I have to not only get myself packed for the hospital, but my family as well.  Our hardwood floors are finally going to be finished while I am in the hospital, but that means that my family has to go stay with my parents because you can't walk on them for 24 hours after each coat of the finish.  Well, time's a wastin' so I'm gonna get dinner together, get everyone packed, and go to bed.  See ya'll on the other (losing) side.  BTW, I cannot even begin to express my gratitude for the overwhelming amount of support that I have received from all of my OH friends.  It means soooo very much to me.  I wish I could reach through my computer and give each and everyone of you a huge hug!  Ya'll are the best!!!!  See ya on the losing side!

Hunger is fading...but not much!!!

Well, I made it through my first through my first test!  I survived St. Patrick's Day and all of its parties without eating corned beef and cabbage and mashed potatoes and all the other great foods at the parties I attended.  I missed out on grasshoppers and green beer and numerous other favorite drinks.  BUT... I did it - I stuck to the liquid diet and as of this morning I have lost 4.6 pounds since starting the preop liquid diet on Thursday morning.  That's about 1.5 pounds per day!  If that keeps up, I'll be back down to about 234 the morning of surgery.  That's the lowest I have been in a while!
My hubby took me out to lunch today before we videotaped the Hurrah Players performance of "Aladdin".  I had the best tomato soup I have ever had in my life!  Maybe I was just super hungry, but I don't think so.  I had a really hard time not eating t he freshly baked Italian bread and butter that came with it, but I resisted it.  That felt good!
I have so much to do to get ready.  I had planned to clean my house ceiling to floor before surgery, but time will not permit that now.  I'll be lucky to have all of the laundry done.  I am not going to sweat it though.  My husband and kids will help out while I am in the hospital and after I get out.  I have some duplication jobs for my business, BayView Video Services, to finish up before Wednesday.  I will get them finished - I have to!  I also have to get the B12, iron, and chewable vitamins before Wednesday.
I still can't believe that I will be on the operating table on my way to being a loser in less than 60 hours!  I am soooo excited!

Ugghh... I am soooo Hungry!!!!

This liquid diet is not fun AT ALL!!!!  I am really hungry, but trying not to complain too much.  I am almost finished with day 2 of these liquids - only 4 days left before surgery.  I have lost 3 pounds since yesterday.  So I guess this is a good way to jumpstart my weight loss and get used to not eating so much.  I am going to really struggle tomorrow with not eating any corned beef and cabbage at my mom's St. Patrick's Day Party.  There are also going to be some really good green drinks, but I will survive it.  I am sooo ready for this surgery and starting my new life.  I am even lookinginto going to nursing school to become a nurse anesthetist.  I already have a BS in biology and chemistry; so I would be able to be in the accelerated nursing program.  I would finish with my BSN in 2 years and then have 2.5 years of Nurse anesthetist school.  I would still do my video business but go to part time or hire someone to run it for me.  I would have to get some scholarship money or grant money to do school, but I think it would be a really great new career for me.  I have always had an interest in medicine, but never really persued it because I decided to get married and have children.  I feel like this surgery is giving me a second chance on life and I am not going to sacrifice any of my dreams this time!

I have a New Date!!!!

Mar 14, 2007

Wednesday, March14, 2007

My new date is one week away on March 21st!!!  Tomorrow (Thursday, Mar 15, 2007) I have to go get my preop bloodwork done after my haircut and highlight.  Then on next Tuesday (Mar. 20, 2007) I will have my all day education class and my H&P preop appt. with Dr. W.  Then I report to the hospital at 8:30am for a 10:30am surgery time.  Also, I have to start my liquid diet tomorrow.  I am a little bummed that I won't get corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day this year, but I can deal with it.  Tonight Mike and the kids and I went to Outback so I could have my last supper.  Ha! Ha!  I had a very rare 12 oz prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans and two margueritas and shared a blooming onion with the family.  It was awesome.  I knew I had to savor some prime rib one last time because I think it will be way to faty for me after surgery.  I am going to do my best to follow the post-op rules to the letter so that I can get this weight of as quickly as possible.  I am so thankful that I am getting this second lease on life that I promise I will not waste it.  I am going to be the healthiest I can be for the rest of my life!

Woohoo! My date is getting moved up!

March 13, 2007

I am sooo excited!  I just had a message on my voicemail from my surgeon's shcchedule coordinator that they had a cancellation and wanted to know if I can take it.  She didn't say what the new date was, but I don't care!  I am calling her back in the morning to tell her , "YES! YES! YES!  I'll take it no matter when it is!"  I can't believe it!  I'll post tomorrow as soon as I find out what the date is.  I am so happy that I am         on air right now!  I will post tomorrow after I speak with Becky to get my new date!
