Almost 1 Week Post-OP

Sep 05, 2011

So here I am. Almost one week post-op and finally happy with my decision. Went to the emergency room at 3:00am this morning because I hadn't felt well all day and had gotten scant fluids in for the past two days, so I went in for a workup and juiceup. Everything looked good except for I had a 'high D dimer'. The doctor sent me for a lung perfusion test and it came back good. They wanted me to get some type of cat scan but my veins were flat because of the dehydration and they couldnt get an IV started with a big enough needle.
By the way they weighed me and I've lost another 10lbs. That's 15 total in less than a week. They didn't seem concerned about that...so I shrugged it off too. Weight is what I want to lose.
So I got the green light to go home after getting juiced up. But the Doc definitely wanted me to return if I showed signs of fever or vomiting.
I'm feeling pretty good now. I came home from the hospital and ate some oatmeal and drank milk. Reminded me of my childhoood. It was soooo good.
Still don't have an apetite and not sure what it will feel like to feel hunger. Right now I drink and eat because I know I have to...not because I want it. Weird.
This morning my roommate cooked bacon and I couldn't tell what she was cooking. See I had had bacon nearly every morning for years so why was it so hard to detect the scent?  Weird. I had to actually go to the kitchen and see evidence that it was in fact bacon she had cooked. To me it smelt like bad meat roasting in a tar pit. lol.
Something else too...I don't think about food but I dream about it, mostly fish and seafood. WTH!
Commercials of food don't make me want it and I am obsessed with watching cooking shows now.
Today I felt good enough to take my grandson to ToysRUs alone. We had a great bonding time. When I got home I was quite tired but happy I had walked the store with him.
Ok. Peace. Will post pics soon.

2 days post op!

Sep 01, 2011

Hello,
2 days post op and feeling yucky. How did it feel when I woke up from recovery? Let me put it like this...I have had 2 cesareans, an hysterectomy, an appendectomy, tonsillectomy, gall bladder removal and most recently arthroscopic knee surgery. NONE of them, COMBINED was as painful as this surgery. i am going to post alot to keep all you curious pre ops informed. I have pics of my drain and incisions you might like to see. I go tomorrow to get my drain removed. I'll take pics of that as well. I sleep a lot and am now pooping alot. I eat jello and drink water all day. Little itty bitty sips. Most of my day is spent trying to prevent myself from becoming dehydrated. Today I have gas from hell. Walking around the house seems to help with that. I'll keep you updated duckies. Kisses.

APPROVED!

Aug 05, 2011

Hello,
I called my insurance company yesterday because I hadn't heard from my doctor's office and the suspense was killing me, and I found out my surgery was approved! Since July 25th even! I wonder why no call from the doctor's office? Any ways, I'm only waiting for my surgery date now. Who woulda thunk it? I'm finally here. I'll keep you posted on the date. I'm past excited.
Byieee.

Waiting for Approval and a Date

Jul 31, 2011

All visits, done. Program fee payment, done. Now waiting for insurance approval. I hope I get it soon. The Dr says my surgery may happen late Sept. early Oct. I haven't lost enough weight for him. I think he wants to see how committed I am to the process so he's stretching out my surgery date. My previous visit I was told by the nurse that it would likely be end of August. (sigh) I'm not disappointed yet. I'm still hopeful that I will get a date sooner rather than later. I'm so ready to be on the losing end. By the way Doc...I AM COMMITTED to the process. Just get it done!

Long Journey

Jul 03, 2011

Wow! Its been nearly 3 yrs since I seriously began this journey. Had my last scheduled visit 2 wks ago. Had my knee surgery 1 week ago. It feels marvelous. I know I will be ready to rock and roll on it soon. Very little pain now. All of my testing is done. I will pay my final installment on my program fee come friday and then comes the wait for the insurance approval. The Dr says August is about when I will get a surgery date. Crossing my fingers, legs, eyes t's and anything else I can think of crossing. Wish me LUCK!

Too fat!

Apr 28, 2011

Update: I started over on Jan 2011 with my visits to Dr von Rueden. I lost my insurance coverage in 2008 and wasn't able to see things through. Ugh. I have nearly all my required tests done. I only need to see a cardiologist now, finish paying my program fee and hope for insurance approval. I wanted to get the gastric sleeve after much research but have recently been informed through the nurse at my Dr office that my insurance company doesn't approve the sleeve surgery. Just bypasses. So, the bypass it will be! If all things go as planned I may be looking at an August 2011 date for surgery. This is what the office staff tells me. I would love for it to happen then. I'm so excited that I've come this far, I could just burst....LOL.

3rd and 4th visits

Sep 18, 2008

Hello all,

Here's the updates. 2nd visit forgot to mention I lost 6 lbs, just by eliminating juice. 3rd visit, gained 2 lbs back. 4th visit, just tuesday, lost the 2 I gained back.

This months goal? Portion control, and not skipping meals. Lunch is my least favorite meal. I'm just not hungry at lunch time because I eat a big breakfast. Sloane, the nutritionist, has stressed to me the importance of not skipping this meal and getting in some protein.

I am going to do that.

Last night, went to sleep study. Have sleep apnea. Go figure. I'm thinking it could be the cause of my recent spike in Blood Pressure.

2 more supervised visits to go, lots of testing yet. Much of it is scheduled for Monday 22nd, after that just cardiology consult and psych eval left to do. Go ME!

2nd visit

Jul 24, 2008

Hello,

Went for my 2nd  visit. Insurance  company is requiring  6  consecutive visits  for weight loss and  apparently I didn't  have them last year  with my primary. I  met with Sloane, the  nutritionist, and we  talked  about  my current  months goal of eliminating  juices  from my diet. I  seriously used to  drink a lot of  juices. She  encouraged me to  set  ONE goal and  do  it. I did! I  lost 6 lbs  just by  eliminating  the  juice. I  was  very  surprised. My new  goal is to  replace  bad snacks, with the   good ones. I can  do  that.

I'm counting  down...I have 4   more  visits. Oh, by  the  way Rose   is  great. I really  like  this office  staff. It means the  world  to have  friendly and   efficient  folks  helping you.
Later!

Initial Consult

Jul 02, 2008

Heeeyyyyyy,

Went to my initial consult. Took all the paperwork the office sent. After I got there I found out I needed a referral from my Primary Physician. Called his office and his staff faxed it over. No problem. Met Sloane (Nutritionist), Rose, super nice, super efficient (Finance), and Doc. All went well. I just need to see if my doc has 6 consecutive visits w/me last year, and get 5 yrs of documented obesity. Don't think my doc will have a problem letting them know I been fat a long-ass time. Tell you more later.
