Hello everyone ok I am on day 2 of my liquid diet..... day one was tuff!, but I am a little better this morning. I called my surgeons office today to ask a few questions about my liquid diet and the nurse asked why I was on the liquid diet already since I did not have to start until tomorrow she said 1 day before surgery would have been fine. She also said if I wanted to do a few more  days that was up to me and it was ok. Anyway I started yesterday so that will be a total of 4 days on the diet. Ok so I have an appointment tomorrow for my pre-op visit with the surgeon at 8am and follow up blood work at the hospital at 10am. I then have to report to the hospital Wednesday morning at 6am since I am scheduled for surgery at 8:30...Wow I am finally almost there...ok well see you all later. 

Ok I am updating the latest on my journey. I seen the surgeon on 8-6-09 and he referred me to do a sleep apnea test. I told him that I did not think I had sleep apnea but he ordered it anyway. So I have done the test and the results were sent today to my primary physician who has to fax them to the surgeon. I have learned patience thru all this beleive me LOL! it's been one thing after another, just to think I started all this almost a year ago. Ok well anyway back to the sleep apnea test results they should be hopefuly in the surgeons office next week. Then I was told by the coordinator that they will send for insurance approval (another waiting game) and that should come back fairly quickly I think a week. I asked the coordinator what is the earliest date for surgery and she said in November. Well even though I wish it was sooner I at least have a month in mind now. I have some general Idea of when I will have surgery. I don't understand why so far in the futrue unless they are that booked but I think I will know all lot more once I get the approval from the insurance. So that is where I am. I will update once I know I am approved for surgery! BYE for now

Ok hello everyone hope you are all doing wellI went to meet with the surgeon on 8-6-09 and he said I was the perfect candidate for the surgery that was the good news they also told me my goal is to loose 90 lbs to be atmy goal weigh and that was also good news. But the bad news is I have to take another test! The sleep apnea test now he asked me if I had sleep apnea and I told him no I did not think so but he ordered it anyway. So I am waiting to hear before the end of this week from the sleep center  I am hoping they call soon so I can get this over with. But the surgeon did say once the results are in, the surgery will be in 4 to 5 weeks. Yeahhhh  its been crazy for me all this waiting.... It will be a year in November since this all started but I hope the next update is to let everyone know my surgery Date...take care

Ok I have finally seen the surgeon!! yeah  I was weighed in and my weight was 274 today which means I lost 6 lbs. I spoke with the surgeon and he said I was the perfect candidate for the surgery. I asked him about the vertical sleeve and he said the surgery was not really recomended for me. Its recomended for patients with a different level of needs and for patients usually with a prior surgery. He also mentioned that the surgery was quite new and did not have enough stats behind it. So anyway I am going to have RNY after all. He examined me and asked if I had sleep apnea but I told him I did not think so. But he asked me to take a sleep apnea test anyway. So this is the last test before I am scheduled for surgery. I asked how long before I have the surgery and he said within 4-6 weeks. So I guess it will be in September sometime. So I will call the office tomorrow and schedule my sleep apnea test and see what the results are. Ok just wanted to do an update. I will update as soon as I get my sleep apnea results and hopefully have a surgery date!!!

 Hi everyone I have some good news, I was originaly given an appointment for 8-11-09 to see the surgeon. But with much persistance, I have been calling daily for the last couple of weeks to see if there were any cancellations to get in sooner. I was almost about to give up when finaly today............ I got a break!  Guess what? a cancellation was made and I will be seeing the surgeon a week from today on Thursday Aug. 6th. Yipee!!! I am so happy!!!!

Ok guys I finally have a date to see my surgeon on 8-11-09!!! Yeah!! Ok so this is the order of my WLS journey so far;
09-08 Dr. visit with my primary doctor she suggets WLS and sends out referral
10-08 Mamogram/pap smear
11-19-08 WLS semminar
1-8-09 Weight management orientation 1st visit
02-09 meet with dietician/weight management doctor every two weeks
03-09 "
04-09 "
05-09 "
6-30-08"   Psych evaluation (passed) and last weight management visit
7-8-09 approved by health insurance to see surgeon
8-06-09 Meet with surgeon......then he needs to send for approval for surery to my insurnace.........

I finally have a psych evaluation date set for 06-30-09 and on that same day I have my last weight management appointment!!! Yeah....finaly I moving right along, of course I still have not met the surgeon but that should be a few weeks after the 30th.  I hope this all gets wrapped up soon....I am so anxious!

When I started looking into WLS I had no idea there was a few options out there for me. I thought well I will just tell Dr. Higa (who I haven't met yet) I want the RNY. But after some research on the OH forum and a few tips from friends that have responded gracefuly to my blogs I find that I would like to look into VSG. I think that may be a safer and better choice for me. But of course I am not sure what the Surgeon will tell me when I meet with him in a month or two. I am very anxious and can't wait to start on my journey. Is anyone out there going thru the same thing I am going thru? I know that with all WLS there are risks and complications but does anyone think VSG is the best choice? I want to hear from people that have had the VSG and have had success with it or have had a bad experience and complications from having the VSG. Please help me as I try to sort all this out! thanks  

Any one out there going thru their last month of weight management? I am going into month 6 which is the required of my Blue Shield of California (Sante heath provider) before being approved for surgery. I have my pre-post appointment on Tuesday the 26th of May. I am going to have my psych evaluation sometime this month which I heard was the last thing before submiting to my insurance for approval. I then meet with the surgeon to discuss my options and then he schedules me for the surgery. Well I am hoping this will be within the next month and a half. I am so ready to do this now. I would like feed back on how long do you think I will be off work?  I am pretty sure I am going with RNY since my BMI is 44.

anyone out there in doubt of what surgery to have? I am leaning more towards RNY but hear the lapband has good results too. Anyone out there also trying to make that descision?
