I am a 66 year old woman. I have struggled all my adult life with weight. Call me a human yo-yo. I have tried every diet imaginable and even went to Durham NC and went on the rice diet. I was 38 at the time and lost 80lbs and got down to a size 6. I then had a tummy tuck, breast augmentation and lipo suction. I looked fantastic for a nana second. Unfortunately I didn't implement a life style change  and I regained my weight and plus a bunch more. I was so discouraged I basically gave up. On April 1st 2010 I tipped the scales at 310 and being only 5'2" that's a lot of weight to carry.

I had developed a slew of health problems, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, borderline high blood pressure, pre diabetes, atrilial fib and bad knees. I even had to have night time oxygen and to wear a C-Pap mask. My knees were in constant pain and I could barely walk. I went to see my orthopedic doctor and he point bland told me that unless I lost 50 lbs he wasn't going to operate on me. I was to high a surgical risk and I could die on the operating table. What a wake up call.  I decided to bite the bullet and made a few appointments at the Mayo Clinic. I decided on  the RNY and it was the best decision I've made. I ended up loosing 42 lbs prior to surgery and 6 weeks following that surgery I ended up having bi-lateral knee replacement.  To date I have lost 178 lbs and would like to loose another 12 lbs if possible.

All my health problems have cleared up and I am able to exercise, garden, horseback ride. weight lifting and the rowing machine. I love being active and fully alive.
