2 months out
Sep 19, 2010
Well I am 2 months out and I am feeling great. I have lost better inches than I have weight on the scale. I am down 17.5 inches and I am down 30 pounds from my surgery weight. But my clothes are fitting so much better. I went shopping yesterday and I bought size 20 jeans! I started in a size 26! I also am working out a lot, so I am hoping that I am maintaining more muscle and losing more fat. I have my appt in about a month, so we shall see then.
I even went out with two of my girlfriends last night and I got hit on! It was a great feeling!

1 month out
Aug 29, 2010
I can't believe that it has been a month since I had my surgery. I am feeling great, I am eatting well. Focusing on trying to get around 40 grams of protein a day. I am able to drink at least 64 ounces of water every day. I am exercising, I am on the treadmill about 60 minutes a day right now.
I did measurements on Aug 20th, which was 1 month out and I was down 7.5 inches. I weighed in that day at 260, so I was down 18 pounds.
Then on Aug 27th, I had my 1 month appt and weighed in at 257, so down another 3 pounds. My surgeon thinks I am doing great as well. I will get some pics up soon!

Swithced, my hospital stay!
Jul 21, 2010
Well my day finally arrived, and I got switched yesterday! I am doing ok, all things considered. I just have a roommate that thinks yelling out for help is smarter than her call light. So I haven't gotten more than 4 hours sleep since I got to my room last night at 8:20pm. I also had to wait an hour and a half to get my foley out and to get up this last time. I am a ltitle frustrated by all this. Maybe cuz I am a nurse and I know what I want, and its hard that I can't just get up and do it.
I went into surgery about 9:20, got to PACU at 4:20, was vented until 6:20. Then got to my room about 8:20. I had some spatial swelling and I couldn't even open my left eye last night either.
I was told my the doctor this morning, that I had a lot of abdominal fat and it was quite hard to get through it all with the DaVinci machine, but it was able to be done lap, and I didn't have to be opened, which is good. I do however have an NG tube and a JP drain. They found a leak at the end of surgery, which he fixed right away and it looked great when I came out. So now we wait and see what the rest of my stay brings.
*Update*
July 25th, still at the hospital.
I am still here, its the middle of the night and I can't sleep. Joys of being someone that works nights. So I figured I could update this:
Tues, surgery as above. Although I did find out I also had a tension pneumothorax (part of my lung collapsed). This was also due to not having a lot of space inside me. This is why they kept me on the vent for the 2 extra hours. I have been good about using my IS, so I haven't had any further issues, as the x-rays from surgery day/evening were showing improvement already.
Wed, starting to heal. Asked a lot about farting, but nothing yet. Hurry up and wait kind of day. I talked to both Bridget and Dr Ikramuddin on the phone today. They explained about my surgery more to me. I did get moved to a different room today. So I got some good rest finally.
Thurs came and I was starting to get really uncomfortable with the NG tube in. I asked about it coming out. "farting or pooping yet" Not until we see that. So I was a little cranky and unhappy and I just wanted to sleep my day away. Plus I was not realizing I was going home in time to make my family reunion on Sat. So far only 1 person other than my parents came to visit me, and I was so out of it, I wasn't good company. My brother didn't even come. (although this wasn't a big surprise).
Fri was here and I when I hear the doctor offer a stool softner to my roommate, I asked for one too. I got up and went for a walk and had a little gas on the toilet when I got back. Well my nurse soon met me in my room to give me my stool softner, which wow, had I known how fast it was going to work, I would have asked sooner. I has diarrhea within 30 minutes. So Fri afternoon I got the NG out. This was a good feeling, having it out, not having it removed. However, they didn't want to rush anything, so I waited to start eating my clears until Sat. I did have the Behls come visit me tonight which was nice. Was great to see my best friend and husband and their child.
Saturday. I got the ok to start on my clears today. I tolerated them. But was having a new pain, that took me until the middle of tonight to discover it was gas pains, as I started farting tonight when I was trying to sleep. So I walked today. I had some broth, yuck. Gelatin, yuck. Water and popsicles, good. The plan is to try me on oral pain meds today and if all goes well with that, we are looking at going home today! Yeah.
Oh and I finally got some flowers to cheer up my room, from the SANE gals. Glad someone cared enough to send some. I told me mom how sad I was to be here today and not at the reunion and could she please come see me. I never even heard back from here. I was a little bit dissapointed. Ok will keep you posted.

Pictures!
Jul 07, 2010
I finally have some pictures. As you can see that even though I may be pleasantly plump, I am not afraid of the camera. I can only imagine once I lose some of this weight! My pics are all pre-op pics. My avatar was the only pic "small enough" to fit. But it will work for now! Enjoy!
