Still waiting....

Feb 24, 2012

So i have emailed my Dr's office possible date for surgery and still have heard no word back on the actual date. It's been over a week now. I know it takes several people to coordinate and the weekend of my Preference is over easter weekend. So that may be why it is taking so long.

I'm slowing getting myself off soda's and starches and attempting to eat more protein. The carbs has been the hardest thing for me! It's also hard while cooking for my son. I always cook a few side dishes for him and it's just asking me to take a bite lol. So just up my protein shakes and I have also cut down on my breakfast meals. I'm used to eating a good big breakfast and instead have opted for oatmeal. I will start drinking protein shakes for breakfast starting soon.

I think the hard part for me is now the wait.....

My Journey Begins

Feb 20, 2012

I went to visit with Dr. Victor Gonzalez and I was impressed.  I had my series of appointments I had to meet which consisted of an EKG, PSYCHOLOGIST, Consultation, Seminar, Dietician and Scope. These appointments were set up for me by the Dr's office. I was able to get all this accomplished in a four day trip. I am now on a two week antibiotic medication  and waiting on date approvals for my surgery. I am looking in April to have the procedure done.

I felt Dr. Gonzalez is a great person and knows his stuff! He is presenter not like most Dr's who will have a tech or assistant do the seminar.  I went in for a consultation and it all went well he explained everything to me and he answered all my questions. I loved the analogy he used about a car. He said you can learn to drive a car but how well you learn to drive the car is the key. You are in control of it and if you don't take care of your car you will have complications with it. Like this surgery we are in control if we don"t do the necessary steps needed for successful weight loss then we will have complications. So I'm sure we will have bumps and turns along the way but how you overcome those bumps is what is key.

He really teaches the success of your surgery depends on you. I truly believe this. I think if your not ready for the change mentally or emotionally then you should think twice. This procedure is not an easy one. I'm sure people may have told you this is an easy way out and actually it may be one of the hardest things you ever do! You have to completely change your mind set on how you look at food. You have to make better smarter choices and learn to cope with your new stomach. This is going to be a challenge!! I know for me it is, but I know I/m ready.

So at the moment I am working on finding a good protein drink and so far I LOVE ISOPURE those drinks taste great! They are easy for me to drink and there isn't an after taste to it. Kinda reminds me of a cool aid drink with not enough sugar LOL. So I'm getting off soda's and birth control this month to get ready for my surgery. Next week I'm going to have 2 meal replacements and a sensible light meal. So my journey begins of eating healthier and getting my body ready for the adventure I'm about to take it on!!

A step closer....

Feb 07, 2012

So alot has happened since my last post. I was able to find a surgeon who takes care credit and preforms sleeve surgery all within a reasonable cost ($9500)WOW!!!  I was ESTATIC (to say the least) although there are a few costs you will have prior to surgery you will need to pay out of pocket I know it will be worth it. I currently leave tomorrow for Dallas Texas for my consultation and series of other testing I must complete prior to surgery. Unlike  Mexico I basically filled out my health information sent it in and was cleared for surgery which seemed simple. Since I have found a doctor here in the states you have alot more testing! Testing i must complete is-
EDG (Scope)/ Cardio/Psych/Consultation w/ Dr./ Seminar/Deiticien/Pshycological.
The out of pocket expense about $1500.00 including room and board.
I live about 7-8 hours away so i must stay at a hotel.
So total it 11,000! I think it's a great investment in myself!!!

So I embark on my journey tomorrow and hope to be completed with the testing and all needed pre-op things so I am cleared for surgery. I am very thankful for this opportunity and I know I have set my family at ease because I will be in the US and not Mexico. I know this this will be a great start to a fabulous new me!!

I would love any comments or suggestions on what to expect and hear from those who have had the sleeve surgery performed already. I enjoy seeing and reading everyone's success stories!

Surgery

Jan 14, 2012

Wow! I have been contemplating this procedure for over a year now. I finally got approved with Care Credit and was excited about getting the lapband surgery. I soon realized everyone is doing sleeve and prefer it over the band. So now my options have changed again. Luckily I am not contemplating this time around. I have decided the sleeve with Dr. Alvarez and have done plenty of research on him and feel comfortable. I do admit surgery in Mexico does scare me but after reading the reviews and seeing his website and all you tube posting i am comfortable. I will be praying about this surgery and hope I can get peace enough to let family know and most importantly get them to understand my decision. So i have a tentative date of 2/28 and hope to have surgery before my 30th birthday in March. I figure might as well start my 30's slim and happy with life. I feel I am wiser and mature now so all my mistakes of my 20's can be gone!! So i'm not dreading my 30's like most of my friends are I'm actually want to embrace it and start a new journey in my life. So I will keep updating as my schedule surgery comes along. I find that writing my thoughts and frustrations will make me more at ease. I hope you enjoy my post and I hope I can help others find peace and comfort and help them make  a decision for thier own WL journey.
