9 Weeks Post Op!
May 29, 2007
Wow, how time flies! Well today I am 9 weeks post op! I am feeling well, no complications thank God! I had a few issues with food getting stuck and I've taken the advice of our fellow OH'ers and done well. Yes, life after WLS is definitely an adjustment for me. Sometimes I feel frustrated and irritated, but overall - it couldn't have gone better. Yes, I get lightheaded sometimes and I know I don't get all my protein and water and sometimes even my vitamins in daily (DON'T YELL AT ME, I DO THAT ENOUGH TO MYSELF!!!!) and i know this is why i get this way. I have been trying things lately and realized that I could tolerate sugar - knock on wood...no dumping so far. I hope I continue on with this. I do understand my limitations on what i can and cannot eat and what i should and should NOT eat and i have realized this. Nothing feels good as being thin feels is my motto!!!
I am down 44 lbs. now, however I question my scale. Last week I was at 51.5 lbs. down...and now all of a sudden it reversed?? No way, I don't know if it's building muscle or if it's water retention. I hope neither! I will definitely get more exercise in. I am going to start doing Taebo with my aunt three days a week and try to go to the gym the other two days. If weather is nice, I will keep walking. I have been slacking a little in the exercise dept., but still losing. Not as fast as many other people I read about ...but it's all good! I would have never lost 44 lbs. in 2 months prior to surgery so it's a great accomplishment!
I have a doctor appt. next week to see Krause so we shall see the grand total of weight loss as of next week.
Toodles for now!

6 Weeks Post Op!
May 07, 2007
Yipeeeeee....today I am 6 weeks post op. I feel great. Spring time is here and I am at a total weight loss of 43 lbs. Not too shabby huh? Things have been going well. In the last 3 days I have walked about 10 miles and I am sooooo sore! Even my butt hurts. My cute clothes have all gone to hell. I cannot believe the clothes have gotten so huge on me. Last night I started trying clothes on in my closet to see what still fits and what used to be tight that I can wear now before I have to start buying clothes (not a bad thing at all...hehehehehe) and there were only two shirts that fit fine. Unreal. It's obvious that the inches are just melting off, yet I still don't see much of a dramatic change. It's all good, it's only been 6 weeks. I am truly blessed to have had the courage, strength, and will to have had this surgery and to be doing so well today. Granted I have not had many issues with food, but my biggest one is food getting stuck. It doesn't happen everyday, but it's happened 3-4 times. It seems to be soft breads such as tortilla and lavash and chicken that it happens with. One day chicken is fine, next day it's not. I also have to keep chewing more and eating slower. Sunday evening I had something stuck and just got so depressed. It was my first bite of food - a chicken soft taco and it got stuck. I tried rubbing the muscle, no such luck. I took a couple of sips of tea...next thing you know, I'm throwing it up! I admit i did feel good, but then i started crying non-stop thinking..."WTF did I do to myself?" Will this ever get better....please tell me yes...someone, anyone! I don't want to feel discouraged. Yes, I know that I had two surgeries in a week, and maybe that is why I am swollen and this is happening...so I am just gonna leave it in God's hands, and pray that he will walk me through this. Other than that, feeling totally normal. Been working out for the last three weeks, doing well overall, thankfully!
5 Weeks Post Op! Long...sorry!
May 02, 2007
Sorry it's been so long since I posted. This post will be slightly long because it's been over a month since I posted!
My surgery was 3/27 AND 3/29. I drove to the hospital early in the morning, went to pre-op, Dr. Krause came before the surgery to see if I had any questions and meet my mom, and I was in la-la land. I woke up in recovery and then went to my room. I was not in any pain, just very groggy and coughing a lot. The nurse told me it was because of the tube they put in my mouth. I was given ice chips - which is a good thing cuz I loveeeeeeee ice!! Anyways, that night I had a little tempature...so they gave me some cold cloths to put on my forehead and neck. I had a fever of 101. The next morning the fever was gone...thankfully. They brought me some nasty a$@ chicken broth - high protein, no salt, chicken dipped in water broth....yuck! They also brought me some sugar free jello ------ewwwww. I don't do jello anyways, so the tray went back to the kitchen exactly as it came to me. They brought me a popsicle...it was good. It was also REGULAR, NOT SUGARFREE. You would think that someone would have informed the kitchen that I was a Gastric Bypass patient and i could only do sugar free. No wonder the popsicle was so good. So they brought me a sugar free one...was still great. I walked around the nurse's station about 6-7 laps. I did the same the night before. I visited with some patients I knew had had the surgery with the same day as i did because of when we met at the Pre-Op instructions the week before. They were doped up, in such pain and couldn't even walk....wow. I was practically running laps around the nurses...then realized that not everyone is the same.
That night I developed another fever that was 104. I was shaking, shivering, sweating and freezing and the nurse walks into my office telling me to remove the covers from me because i needed to bring my fever down...go figure while i was trying to actually sleep. My neighbor was a 92 year old woman who kept yelling, crying, and snoring...couldn't speak english and I actually couldn't believe they put her in a room with someone. The next morning Dr. Krause came in with a couple of other doctors to tell me that he didn't understand why I kept getting fevers. He said the barium test was negative for a leak and said that he would feel comfortable to go back into surgery to make sure there is no problems or leaks. I agreed and an hour later I was back in Pre-Op for surgery. I was so tired, I fell asleep while they were putting the IV in my arm. I woke up in a new room (i told the head nurse to switch my room) and a little groggy. Had some visitors, then that evening...sure enough - a fever developed. Next day, I told my surgeon that maybe it was some medication that was causing this. They brought Infectious Disease and said i might have a UTI or a kidney infection. Never had both..so they sent me to ultrasound and x-ray. Doctor got me off some meds....a few days later i was fine to be released. One week in the hospital and still didn't know 100% what was causing the fevers...could have been the meds, who knows!
Anyways, I was home for a couple of weeks...working everyday (had my work computer at home)...walking around, trying to eat what I could, going up and down stairs - although I don't know if i should have. Things were going pretty well...no uneventful things happening.
Now the update.....
Been doing well. I'm on soft foods now. I've had a few episodes of things getting "stuck" and have only thrown up once...probably due to the Ursodial that got stuck. I tried to make it go down by taking a big gulp of Atkins shake. Haven't dumped or anything after that. When I get the stuck feeling...i just rub that area/muscle...and i burp - it goes away. Burping before surgery...now burping after surgery. I thought it would go away...boy was I mistaken!!
I have eaten egg salad, i tried tuna (first time was fine, second time it got stuck....i won't try for a while), pinto's and cheese, chicken, hamburger, meatloaf, salmon, i tried a salad a couple of days ago....it was awesome, potatoes, fava beans, hummus, protein chips from Kay's (soooo good), Boca burgers, cheese, Laughing Cow wedges, deli meats (very thin - I spread some LC cheese and roll them up and chew chew chew...great lunch, nice protein grams together), soups galore. I've eaten at Boston Market, Wendy's, and Brass Pointe so far.
I have a protein shake almost everyday - my new recipe is Raspberry/Strawberry Cheesecake shake.....awesome! If you want to know how I make it, message me. I posted this on the messageboard.
I have lost 35 lbs. There is a lb. or 2 that keeps fluctuating up and down. Don't know why! I hope I haven't hit that plateau that I hear people talking about. I want to lose slow, but not reallllly sllllooowww. I want to wear a bathing suit this summer and feel comfortable to not have to wear a tank top! My clothes are so huge on me, yet I don't see it so much in my body like I do on my face. So I know I'm losing inches, even though I don't see a drastic change in my body.
I will definitely keep up with the posting as I can. I'm outtie for now, until the next time!

3-16-07
Mar 15, 2007
So 12 more days for surgery. Tuesday I am going for my Group Pre-Op Instruction. I guess I will be getting ready to go shopping after that meeting. I think I keep replaying in my mind everything I have gone through in the last month from the 1st day I visited the Beaumont Weight Control Center until the day I met with the surgeon on Wednesday. It kinda seems surreal that all of this happened. It's actually nerve-wrecking and exciting with the anticipation that this is going to happen in less than two weeks. OMG. It's gonna be quite a weekend!
3-14-07 Great News! I have a date!!!! Yaaaaayyyyy....
Mar 14, 2007
So, I met with Dr. Krause today and guess what??? I got a surgery date! OMGGGGGGG! March 27th is the day. I thought he was going to tell me that I had to wait for insurance...Nope! He asked me if I had spoken to BCBS and I told him yes. He said my file was completely in order and the form he needed signed from my PCP was already filled out (i did this a month ago) - it shocked him! He told me to schedule surgery with Bree and he would see me the day of surgery. Oh hell no! LOL. I was shaking and full of joy at the same time. I wanted to do the Toyota jump right then and there. This website is amazing, informative, caring, and oh so supportive. I need some prayers to come my way. Thanks for listening!
