3 days post Stomaphyx
Sep 27, 2007
I had the stomaphyx procedure Monday, Sept 24. Since it has only been three days, I don't know how successful it will be. The procedure itself was very mild for me. My surgeon required one night hospital stay for observation since I was one of his first patients for this procedure. I checked in at 8:30, waited around, talked to the surgeon, got "prepped" with a gown and booties and met with the anesthesiologist. They wheeled me into the surgery room, gave me an IV and I was out like a light. That was around 11am. I woke up not feeling much of anything except the inability to fully wake up for a few minutes. Once I did, I was taken to a room. I felt fine by 1pm. I was a bit sore, but nothing specific except a sore shoulder as if I'd slept on my neck wrong. The pain in my abdomen was mild. I stayed the night and enjoyed the morphine and vicodin cocktails with my roommate Monica who had the same procedure right before me. By morning, I was anxious to leave, so I was released after my Dr dropped by and signed me out.
So, big question - what about the hunger??? Monday was okay. Broth never tastes so good as it does when you haven't eaten for almost a day. Those terrible dreams of food happened all night too. Tuesday I was famished. I drank a protein drink - isopure. Still hungry. By evening I was going nuts. I was told liquids only so I liquified soups with a powerful blender. Wednesday was a similar story. Today was better. I'm still struggling with the head hunger though.
So, here are some pictures if I can make this work.
