Lost 15.5 lbs!
Sep 23, 2007
My diet has been going great. I've lost 15.5 lbs so far! I'm down from 48.9bmi to 46.3 :D
Of course at this weight you don't see the difference, my clothes fit the same. But I am happy at the success! I've been losing about 1 lb every other day, plus an extra here or there. I'm very happy about it!
It's amazing how much real food you can get in yourself with 1000 calories a day. With 5 meals a day, and 200 calorie meals, I don't feel cheated at all. I can eat "bad" stuff as long as it fits into my calorie count. It's easier to make the choice not to eat something "bad" when it would mean skipping a meal to compensate!
I still struggle to get in enough water, but I'm working on it.
My energy level has vastly improved. I feel great! I haven't felt this good since I was going to college. My focus is much better. I don't feel nearly as "foggy" as usual. I think I was really lacking in protein! Making sure I get my 100g of protein in per day really has made the difference.
Go me! :D

surgery plans on hold.
Aug 27, 2007
My husband is not exactly being supportive of the idea of surgery. He is not convinced I have tried hard enough to lose weight the natural way. He has requested that I give it another good try before I commit to surgery.
He is worried about the risks involved and the fact that it is a lifetime commitment. He feels that I will be unhappy after surgery because I have done something irreversible. I feel like he should not be trying to make that determination -- it is my life, my body, my choice.
I'm not sure how to proceed with my plan at this point. I had planned on doing a very low calorie diet for a while to lose some weight, while I was seeing a bariatric doctor who would help assess and coordinate my efforts. That way I could be ready for surgery as soon as possible.
Right now though it seems that all I have left is the idea of a very low calorie diet. So I'm going to order some protein powder, vitamins, and my glucophage, and get started on that the 2nd full week of September when we have the funds for all of it.
I'm going to do a liquid diet for 2 weeks, targeting 1200 calories or less per day, which would work out to about 100g protein, 120-160oz of water, and a pack of vitamins which contains fish oils and other supplements.
After two weeks I'm going to remove one meal of protein shake and replace it with a sensible 300 calorie meal with at least 30g of protein, as low a carb count as I can get, and low fat. I'm going to avoid high fructose corn syrup, focusing on fresh foods, complex carbs or fiber, no soy protein, and no sugar alcohols (malitol etc).
I want to test out some recipes, search for my options, and figure out a new way of living.
In order to do this I need to schedule out my day so that I have all my food pre-planned. I'm going to type up a daily schedule and tack it to the fridge. It will look something like this:
8am -- 10-12oz water, thyroid pills
9am -- 24oz 200cal protein shake, morning meds & vitamins
10am -- 10-12oz water
11am -- 10-12oz water
12pm -- 24oz 200cal protein shake
1pm -- 10-12oz water
2pm -- 10-12oz water
3pm -- 24oz 200cal protein shake
4pm -- 10-12oz water
5pm -- 10-12oz water
6pm -- 24oz 200cal protein shake, dinner meds & vitamins
7pm -- 10-12oz water
8pm -- 10-12oz water
9pm -- 24oz 200 cal protein shake
10pm -- 10-12oz water, night time meds
We'll see how that goes. I'll be keeping track of my hunger, how I feel (fatigued, energetic, etc) and see how it works out. If I can do that for 2 full weeks (14 days) then I can change my 6pm meal to a 300 calorie real food meal.

I'm waffling. I go back and forth between the lap band and RNY... I don't know what would work best for me. The lap band seems to need a lot of maintenance and the problems people have with it seem less acceptable.
I'll have to do more research.

New insurance.

I'm so excited!
My husband is starting a new job tomorrow and the insurance we'll be signing up for under his company is the best insurance we've ever had. Not only is there no yearly deductible and no lifetime limit, but it covers obesity management and surgery for BMIs over 40!
I am so happy!!!
I can pursue the lap band now. Yay!
