6 months out today.....
Nov 02, 2008
I was in a seriuos car accident on my home from my part time job from doing the political survey's. Go figure. It was a hit n run. He totally me car by t-boning my passenger left side and sent me to the hospital. I was there for 3 days from a spained back and neck. My witnesses got the lincense plates, cops found the dude 36 hours after the accident.
Cop told me that I was lucky to walk away from the accident with minor injuries to myself. But they did not arrest the guy that hit me, he is terminally ill. So that makes it ok?.... WELL needless to say my attorney is right on it.
But I am lucky to be alive. Any closer to my drivers seat, and the impact would have killed me from snapping my neck.
Other then these issues, I am feeling fine. I am thankful every day, in every way that I have the gift of life.
5 months out...
Oct 02, 2008
How do I feel? Well, ofcourse I am absolutely happy. I feel amazing all the time. I have energy like no one's business. I out last the kids and hubby now. All very positive things. I can't complain, well except....
I can't help but to feel like I really worked extra hard for an extra long time, before surgery to accomplish, what I thought was a blessing, of the 100 lbs over 2/3 yrs. I feel like, I have earned this so completely. I really did my best. I have learned all I can and after the learning lesson I feel a bit JADED.
Yes, I used the "J" word. This is as close as I can get to the actual feeling I am feeling. If I would have known that I did not have to work as hard as I have, I would not had to suffer many concuscions from banging my head against the wall. I would had just stayed hopeful that WLS was going to make this so much more easier, or POSSIBLE for that matter.
I would not had to suffer the guilt, the thoughts, depression and all the negatives that I was facing just this time last year. But, like they say, water under the bridge. And like Binden said to Palin, the "bridge that leads to no where."
I guess I feel this way because I see people who have had WLS and they NEVER tried as hard as me. I am not saying they did not try, but I have to say, I have never seen anyone work at weight loss as hard a me, and being successful, but not achieveing my minimal expectations. I have trainer's, friends, Dr.'s, children and a husband who could only stand by and watch me go through all I went through to better my life. It was very depressing.
So now, that I am on "the otherside", to me, this is a cake walk. I really can say I appreciate and am grateful that it is this easy. So true to the point that I feel llike I was a FOOL to ever believe that I could have actually achieved my goals with out it.
So, when I see people who had wls, and they say, laughing of course, "Oh I never had to do a thing to lose my weight! " And as I talk to them mor, about 76 % of the time, the person has never really given it a "best effort" before surgery. Some how, sold on the dream that "wls is the cure". And I guess I mention this because, for me, after working my ass and heart to the ground TRING with 100% effort to loss weight, get healthy as I fight for surgery, only after I have surgery, to walk a few miles in my new shoes, discover that, yes, it is true! Yeah, that totally irritates me. But I am SO glad it is that way becuase I would be even more pissed if it did not make things easier. However, I was in the mind set that I was willing, able and prepared to work just as hard pre op, just to get the results I needed.
I just needed to say that. It was on my mind, my heart and now I feel better. OK, I am totally happy with my life, self and my mind. The world is not right, but mine looks brighter every day. I weigh today, 212lbs, -92 lbs from the surgery date, 192lbs from my heaviest. I have lost 671/2 inches. I have 50 lbs to get to 162, which is my number to throw out there, as I don't really care after I am under 200, but my body will stop where it needs, and until then it is all just a number's game. I am healthy, strong, diabetes free, and that is all I care about. So, family is good, marriage is good, and life is only getting better. Next month is my half way mark, and another round of labs... Lets see how all my hard work pays off.... I take all my vitamins everyday, I weight lift, cardio, dance, very active. So I superimpose my lifestyle.

Here is my secret:

Your metabolism doesn't know how much food you'll eat tomorrow or the next day because those days have not happened yet.
Therefore, your metabolism always burns calories based on your eating habits during the past few days -- because it assumes that you'll continue to eat in the same general way.
Guess what? You're about to shock your metabolism by doing something you've never tried before -- you're going to do the OPPOSITE of what it expects you to do. You're going to NOT continue eating the same types of calories and meals for more than a couple days at a time, and you're going to lose a lot of weight by doing this.
To make this work you need to SHIFT the types of calories eaten as shown in our diet on the next page, and if you do this then your metabolism will burn all of the calories eaten. Then, when it finishes burning those calories it will find the nearest available fat tissue on your body and burn that too...

My game plan:
Sep 07, 2008
I am adjusting my life style, yet again. I am 4 months out. I have had a bit of a honeymoon, enjoying foods with all it's glory (fat). It has been fun, and I have been enjoying the weightloss while not having to be so mindful. So now, as my body has pretty much adapted to this surgery. I am going to change my game plan again.
I had a very nice session with my personnal trainer from Beverly Hills, and we have come up with a plan to try. I will be going to a simi macrobiotic diet, but I will leave my dairy and meat in. I was going in that direction prior to surgery, for about 2 yrs. I could not be 100% vegan, but I totally understand and love that all the nutrional value is mine for the taking. Even tho I am malabsorbing alot of the nutrients, I give my body a better variety of vitamins and proteins. Colon health is super important, so I can not ignore one group of food or another.
So I am enclosing my research for any one else who is interested, and also for myself if ever I need a reminder.
What is the Macrobiotic Diet?
The word "macrobiotic" comes from Greek roots and means "long life". The macrobiotic diet and philosophy were developed by a Japanese educator named George Ohsawa, who believed that simplicity was the key to optimal health.
The diet Ohsawa recommended included ten progressively restrictive stages. The last stage of Ohsawa's macrobiotic diet consisted only of brown rice and water. Due to its extreme restriction, Ohsawa's version of the macrobiotic diet is no longer recommended by macrobiotic diet counselors.
Michio Kushi expanded on Ohsawa's macrobiotic theory and opened the Kushi Institute in Boston in 1978. Together with his wife Aveline, Kushi published many books on macrobiotics and was responsible for popularizing the diet in North America.
Why do People Follow the Macrobiotic Diet?
Typically, people interested in the macrobiotic diet are seeking a healthy way of eating that integrates physical, spiritual, and planetary health.
The macrobiotic diet is a low-fat, high fiber diet that is a predominantly vegetarian diet, emphasizing whole grains and vegetables. In addition, the macrobiotic diet is rich in phytoestrogens from soy products.
Because low-fat, high fiber diets are often recommended for cancer and other chronic diseases, the macrobiotic diet has been used by people with these conditions. The phytoestrogen content may be protective and reduce the risk of estrogen-related cancers such as breast cancer. However, further research is needed to clarify whether the macrobiotic diet is effective in cancer prevention and treatment.
People with serious medical conditions such as cancer or AIDS should always seek proper medical care. Some people try the diet because they heard it can cure their disease, but reseach has not substantiated these claims.
What are the Guidelines of the Macrobiotic Diet?
- Whole grains typically make up 50 to 60% of each meal. Whole grains include brown rice, whole wheat berries, barley, millet, rye, corn, buckwheat, and other whole grains. Rolled oats, noodles, pasta, bread, baked goods, and other flour products can be eaten occasionally.
- Soup. One to two cups or bowls of soup per day. Miso and shoyu, which are made from fermented soybeans, are commonly used.
- Vegetables typically make up 25 to 30% of the daily food intake. Up to one-third of the total vegetable intake can be raw. Otherwise, vegetables should be steamed, boiled, baked, and sauteed.
- Beans make up 10% of the daily food intake. This includes cooked beans or bean products such as tofu, tempeh, and natto.
- Animal products. A small amount of fish or seafood is typically consumed several times per week. Meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy are usually avoided. Fish or seafood are eaten with horseradish, wasabi, ginger, mustard, or grated daikon to help the body detoxify from the effects of fish and seafood.
- Seeds and nuts in moderation. Seeds and nuts can be lightly roasted and salted with sea salt or shoyu.
- Local fruit can be consumed several times a week. Includes apples, pears, peaches, apricots, grapes, berries, melons, and other fruit. Tropical fruit such as mango, pineapple, and papaya is usually avoided.
- Desserts are permitted in moderation, approximately two to three times per week. Desserts can be enjoyed by people who are in good health. Emphasize naturally sweet foods such as apples, squash, adzuki beans, and dried fruit. Natural sweeteners such as rice syrup, barley malt, and amazake can be used. Sugar, honey, molasses, chocolate, carob, and other sweeteners are avoided.
- Cooking oil is typically unrefined vegetable oil. One of the most common oils used is dark sesame oil. Other oils that are recommended are light sesame oil, corn oil, and mustard seed oil.
- Condiments and seasonings include natural sea salt, shoyu, brown rice vinegar, umeboshi vinegar, umeboshi plums, grated ginger root, fermented pickles, gomashio (roasted sesame seeds), roasted seaweed, and sliced scallions.
4 months and FABULOUS!
Sep 04, 2008
As far as my DS, I am still in love, at full bloom... I have lost another 8 inches this month, and 7 lbs, which is what happens when you turn your fat into muscle.
I am gearing up for the Obesity walk this month.. Last year I did 6 miles (beat everyone there who HAD a surgery, lol) So I have to go 10 miles. This is my goal. I will see if my back allows it, but I am stubborn anyway, and I have pain killers if I need them, so I think I will out do myself, I have a point to prove....
Next month is the Blow The Whistle on Asthma walk. So I have just been in trainning and really getting my strength full thottle. I feel ALIVE!
My life has never been slow. I finally have enough energy to accomplish all my daily goals. For the first time in my life, I am usually super exceeding my daily to do lisy, and running circle around everybody. My husband is so amazed on what I can do. And I make TIME to work out FAITHFULLY, so for anyone who uses the excuse "I can't because...." is just a cop out C A N 'T is not in my vocabulary.
Food that I eat at 4 months out
Normal potion sizes of anything I want. I still watch my carb intake, my protein is above 100 grams most days, I drink 100 oz or more of water. I still use protein drinks, homemade mostly with Unjury powder. I eat a bag of Beef Jerky a day. I take my Vitamins (Prenatal, Iron,Vit C 1000mgs, B-1, B-12, Folic Acid, A-25) in the A.M., 2 hours later I take my Calcuim (first dose x 2 pills = 400) Glucusime, D-3 50, Zantac, Dry A/D, )
Evening Vits: another dose of Calcuim
Before bedtime, last dose of Calcuim....
Not too shabby, I'd say... I have heard a few comments from some people stating that is JUST TO MUCH to remember!
My comment back: "No it isn't! I love feeling healthy and good!" NOTHING BEATS FEELING GOOD!!!!!
People don't understand I have paid the ultimate price. If you think I would go and fuck this up, you outta your head!
You can give all the excuses you want, but:

1 small chopped onion
4 slices crisp-cooked bacon, chopped in bits
3 eggs
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup half-n-half
8 oz. shredded chedder or swiss cheese
garlic powder to taste (optional)

Combine remaining ingredients in mixer bowl and whip well. Pour mixture over beef "crust" and bake 40-45 minutes until top is browned and "set." Cool 15-20 minutes before slicing. This can be packaged in Ziplocs or plastic containers for meals quickly microwaved over the next 3-5 days. (Does not freeze well, though.)
