Vitamins and Protein

Mar 29, 2009

Ok so I am down to 231!! A hundred and ten pounds down the hole!! I am so excited!

Anyways I am now taking some vitamin D and Calcium tabs as well as my multivitamins and B12 sublingals. I spread it out a bit over the day so I don't get full just taking my meds lol. I was told that living in Alaska we needed to take the Vit D more often than those in other states that get more sunshine.

Ok, I am off to church, have a great day people!

Getting the Protein in is hard!

Jun 25, 2008

Ok, so I am trying to get the protein in but everytime I find something that has alot of protein it reacts poorly with my tummy! I tried the Protein shake from my local "costco" look-a-like and it only makes me burp and want to gag. Ugh!

I am trying to get my protein other ways now that I have found out that I am ok with drinking milk, and that sugar does nothing to me either. I have heard that many people cannot have either after surgery, I am trying to stick with the suger-free stuff, but sometimes I get a iced mocha normal because I do not like the suger free syrup they use.

I have not checked my weight in about 2 weeks now, I don't want to stress over it and I figured that since I have an appointment on the 2nd, I would just wait until then... Only one more week to go til I do weigh in :)

Everything else has been going well, my knee that I had surgery on last year does not hurt as much as it did pre-op, so I am very happy about that! And I am much more mobile and have a bit more energy than before too!

Ok I am done for now...

Surgery is done and over with!

May 20, 2008

I know I need to post more, but I never find the time and when I do find the time I always think that what I am saying does not come out right. Anyways...

I had my surgery on May 13th as planned the first time, they tried to reschedule me for the 12th but never gave me my bowel prep which sucked in itself.
So I did the bowel prep on the day they wanted to do surgery and then did my surgery the next day which is the day is was supposed to be on anyways lol.

I had many doubts about weather or not doing the surgery was the right thing, but the next thought I had was waking up in recovery! Wow, talk about no pain no gain!
I am recovering at home now trying to find the right soft foods to eat to keep my protein levels up. I am trying to stay away from dairy so I do not become intolerant. I was told by a friend whose husband had it done, that this was that way to keep milk in my future! Anything is worth a try.
My boyz are being very supportive, every time I move from my room to the front room, my 2 year old Alex brings me out pillows for me to lean on! He is so sweet.
And Eli, my 8 year old, he is my fetcher too! He is always ready to help me with things, not wanting me to get up, and always takes my side! (Unless he is taking his grandmas side :P)
Anyways, that is all for now.

I've been cleared!

Mar 07, 2008

I was soooo excited yesterday when my mom called me at work and told me that I NEEDED to call Dr. Todds Office right away, this was a call I wanted to make. Well with my mom so excited I had to get in on the fun even though I was nervous! So I called and was told that I am cleared for surgery and all they needed to do now was send my information in to my insurance to be cleared! Even told me to start the pre-surgery diet.

I had to let them know that I am supposed to be graduating this May and that I was hoping to have it done right after graduation. I mean can you imagine going through all the mood swings, diet changes, and recovery while taking finals or something? I cannot imagine it, they told me it was ok and that I would have 3 months to have the surgery after the authorization came in from my insurance.

So I am all gooood! I cannot wait but I must. But I am still excited!

My Story

Jun 30, 2007

My name is Mandy and I am just now starting down the road to surgery. I wanted to start this battle about 6 months ago, but then I had school, then on Spring break I hit a moose.. Most people ask me the silly question right about now "You hit the moose with your car?"  and of course to this I really really want to reply... "No, idiot, I went up and slapped the thing with the back of my hand!!!!" hehe, but I never do.. I usually just explain that yes with my car, I hit the moose which broke my ankle, neck and shattered my knee.

I had surgery for my knee on the 28th of March at which time it became very apparent that I needed to lose weight if I wanted to begin walking with my normal gait again anytime soon. I went into the Dr.s office last week and started the six month check ups of my BMI which turned out to be 49. I am definitely twice the woman I should be.

I told my son that I was going to go through with the surgery if I am allowed to, he started to cry. He thinks that if I hit another moose then I will die because he thinks that it was my weight that stopped my from have a worse injury including death. He thinks that I will longer be myself. I have talked to him about it all, and I think he is starting to understand. he will always be supportive, it is just the way he is, A Great 7 year old kid!
