Holiday Grazing Got Me

Jan 02, 2012

Well even though I cannot over eat at meals due to restiction, I have managed through holiday grazing of high calorie, high fat foods to put on 10 Lbs. This is humbling because it is my first significant gain:( My clothes all still fit but I am unhappy with me. I continue exercising 30 mins six times weekly ,but need to return to no sweets and contolled planned snacks. Today is Jan 2nd and I weighed 174. I want to be back to goal (165) in 1 month.

I've attained my Goal!!!!!!!

Sep 04, 2011

I have been weighing between 164-168 for about 2 weeks. It hit me today as I stepped on the scale and weighed 165 that I had made my goal. My original weight was 295 when I stated the baratric surgery process and I weighed 275 the day of my surgery. Since then I have developed a regular exercise program, 30-40 minutes 5-6 days weekly and I wear size 10-12 . I truely am a new person and am so happy for that decision made to have bariatric surgery. I am going to Italy in a few weeks and I wont have travel anxiety about my size and I have really cute clothes to wear . Life is good!

Maintaining

Apr 08, 2011

I am ranging between 174 and 176 most days. Yes I do weigh daily, but it's not  a bad thing for me. I exercise 5-6 times weekly for 30 minutes and have come to really like it . My life is so much happier and healthier. Clothes shopping is fun! I went to Chicago yesterday with my teen daughter and was able to shop in stores with her. We have an upcoming family wedding and I have a beautiful form fitting size 12 dress. Gastric sleeve was a great decision for me. My struggles include eating too fast, getting down enough liquids, and a sweet tooth sneaking back. I know I am best to leave sweets totally alone and need to wean them out again. My surgiversary is April 26th and I see my bariatric surgeon, Dr Verseman on April 27th. He thought my goal should be 165, but I am happy with me as I am. I will have to see what he says, but my BMI is still considered obese at 27. Funny, I don't feel obese. Maybe that is just a number.

Size 12 pants

Feb 11, 2011

Wow, I bought size 12 dress pants for work today. It brings tears to my eyes because I have never worn a size 12 as an adult! I guess now I am a normal sized lady who no one would consider fat. That just blows my mind. Gastric sleeve is the best thing I ever did for myself. Last time I weighed I was 183.

CCCCHHAAAChanges!

Jan 19, 2011

Has it really been 9 weeks since I last blogged? The holidays were a busy time with my husband returning home from Afghanistan. Our family has been transitioning . I've only lost 11 lbs since my last entry (188.5), yet I think I look as though it is more. I work out 5 days a week. I am more toned and have lost a lot of inches. I wear size medium or 12 top, size 14 pants loose, and i bought a wool fitted coat the other day size medium! Shopping is so much more fun. I do have some struggles with eating. Carbs go down fairly easy like chips and salsa or animal cookies. I usually just eat a portion, but they taste so good and I see how I could slip back to snacking which would be disastrous. Also drinking alcohol  adds empty extra calories. So I have to find a balance, right? I have to live and enjoy my life without crossing over to ridiculous excess. If I keep my eyes on the prize( a healthy fit me) I think I can learn to do it. I still need to be humbled and remember how food was once the most important thing in my life and I don't ever want that to happen again!

Onederland and a bump in the road

Nov 12, 2010

This has been an event filled week. I had my 6 month check up wednesday and weighed 200 at that visit. My labs were all excellent except my serum iron was low. I also told my PA about some epigastric pain that I thought was heartburn and she thought was my gall bladder. I did not believe her and then went home that night and had the mother of all painful gall bladder attacks. I was too sick to go to work yesterday, but had an ultrasound that showed my gallbladder full of stones. I spent the day sucking on popsicles(afraid to eat) and this morning I weighed 197.5! Tough way to make it to onderland. Now I have surgery scheduled for next wednesday to remove my gall bladder:( Would this have happened without weight loss surgery? Bariatric patients have a 15% chance of having their gall bladder out in the 1st year following surgery. Am I still glad I had my sleeve? !00% glad! Sooooo, it's just a bump in the road.

six months out

Nov 08, 2010

I am 6 and 1/2 months out this week. I see my surgeon's PA tomorrow and had labs done last week and look forward to seeing my results. Most exciting is that I am very soon to head into onderland! Today I was 203. I have been exercising 5 times a week without fail. I have also added the brutal "Jillian Michaels, The Shred" into my workout 1-2 times weekly which has been a challenge! Yesterday I was walking outside and could see my shadow on the sidewalk. Who was that woman? Her thighs were not touching as she walked! These small rewards are my gifts along the way.

Slowly. but surely!

Oct 21, 2010

It's been about a month since my last post.(33 days to be exact). Today I weigh 209. That is only 6.5 lbs, but I am ok with that. Of coarse I would like to lose faster, but what is cool is that I am gaining sanity about food. It doesn't take top priority in my life anymore. I remember  in one of my classes that my insurance required prior to surgery the topic discussion was: what will I do without my "good friend food"? What I am doing is living a better life!!! Food is losing it's power over me. I see it more as fuel and spend way less time thinking about it. This is a MIRACLE. I am so happy I made the decision to have a gastric sleeve. I am thankful my insurance approved and paid, I am thankful for the support I have received through my bariatric program and this web site.

Getting Closer!!!

Sep 19, 2010

I am just back from a professional conference in Santa Fe, NM. Fall in New Mexico is absolutely beautiful. The conference went 5 hours each day and after that I was free to explore. We did lots of walking and dined out in many fine restaurants . I ate many more high calorie foods than I am used to, but due to my sleeve I only consumed small to very moderate amounts. I also had alcohol daily(1-2 servings) and today I weighed 7 lbs less.(215.5)! I now know that what my nutritionist said is true. I am done with dieting if I listen to my sleeve and call it done when I reach my capacity .Interestingly, the amounts I can eat vary. Sometimes I feel hungry but eat like 6 bites and I am full. Other times i can eat a whole meal with small portions. I am sticking to the not drinking for 15 minutes before and 30 minutes after as my surgeon told me he thought this was of GREAT IMPORTANCE in maintaining your weight loss. I had a totally cool experience in New Mexico. We were in an exclusive shopping area and I went into  a designer coat store and could fit into regular sized coats right off the rack! I actually bought a new winter coat size large!!!!!! Yahoo, goodbye plus sizes, hello choices.

Life looking better and better!

Sep 04, 2010

I haven't posted in a month.I weigh 223 and my BMI is 35. I am wearing size 14 to 16 tops and size 16-18 bottoms. (pear that I am). We spent a week in Jamaica and I was able to wear some cute sun dresses and capris. I also wasn't humiliated in my swim suit!. We were very active and rode on a catamaran daily and went snorkeling. I maintained and didn't gain while I was there despite eating out and drinking alcohol daily. Thankfully I didn't obsess and just tried to make sensible choices. Saw my nutritionist last week and showed her my food journal. She felt I was right on track and her only recommendation was that I increase my B-12 to 500 a day as I have only been taking a B50 daily. However all my 3 month labs were normal. In short at 4 months out on Monday the 30th I am so pleased with how things are going!
