Leo Murphy

"10/24/01- I will meet with Dr. Murphy on November 12. 11/8/01- My consultation with Dr. Murphy was moved up to yesterday 11/7. I met with Dr. Murphy for about 15-20 minutes. He was very pleasant, kind of a jokester. My husband was with me while the Dr. explained the RNY surgery- the possible risks and complications, and what you should do after the surgery (although I was already very familiar with all this info). My husband didn't know much about the technical part of the surgery, so he asked questions and the Dr. very willingly, clearly, and consisely answered his questions and explained the procedure. Dr. Murphy greatly expressed the importance of exercise and protein and that I should be starting both an exercise program and protein supplements NOW. I got a packet of papers with info on pre-op stuff, a timeline to follow with recommendations of when to eat what, a shopping list of stuff to buy PRIOR to surgery so you have it at home when you return and some other good/helpful info. I did feel, however, that Dr. Murphy could have gone into more detail of what to do and what will be happening Post-Op. I myself have done a lot of research on the internet, have met with people who have had the surgery, and am a member of a support group for bariatric patients, so I had a good idea of what to expect. But I think he could have reinforced that information. He also talked pretty fast, so there were 2 questions I forgot to ask him. He covered most everything, but it was all so fast that I didn't even have a chance to remember that I had questions. The questions are pretty minor, so I will call his office and get the info. Other than that, I like Dr. Murphy's personality, he was very friendly and knowledgeable. "
