Pre Op appointment

Apr 13, 2010

OK, I go to my pre op appointment. The doctor says I don't have your x-rays,blood work etc. Thank goodness I had the present of mind to bring a copy of everything, gave it to him and everything is fine he says see you on May 10th. I start thinking wait I mailed the doctor my original medical records over 2 weeks ago. If he didn't get my medical records then Christina who submit the paper work to insurance didn't get my weight history, past medical weight related records. So before I left I gave the coordinator my insurance documentations to give to Christina just in case. I called Christina and left a message for a call back. In the mean time I could hardly keep the car on the road coming home. I called United health Care, nope they haven't received a request for surgery. At this point I am kicking up rocks. Finally Christina calls and said I didn't receive it. I called her 2 weeks ago and told her I mailed it certified and to keep a look out for it. Long story short, when was she going to call  me.  Without approval from insurance guess what Christina, no approval  f"""ing surgery. I was fuming. She could tell by my tone she had better get it together. She said as soon as she get the paper work from the coordinator she will submit. She said UHC doesn't take long to approve. Are the way I am thinking deny with requirements. Well enough of that for now.

Endoscopy Results

Mar 28, 2010

Went for my endoscopy and I didn't have Barrett’s Esophagus, which was a concern. If I had Barrett's the sleeve would have been out and RNY in. I did have duodenal erosion and a hiatal hernia. I am taken a PPI for the erosion. I don't know what the Dr will do about the hernia, hopefully repair it when he does the sleeve?  I also took the 4 hour class required by UCLA. In addition to the  homework packets and courses I took over the internet. After the class you are given an exam, that you must pass or you have to retake the class. I thought yeah right! However there was a lady in the class who failed the exam a week earlier and had to retake the class and exam or no surgery. I passed the exam and did my homework packet.  Now I can concentrate on losing the 12 to 15 lbs before my pre op appointment. The class was told if you haven't lost the weight or close to it, the surgery will be rescheduled.  Oh the pressure

Something about me

Mar 14, 2010

I'm 5'7 & weigh 251 lbs. I have hypertension that used to require 1 pill plus 1 diuretic. That dose has been doubled. I had to do  something. So I went to a few seminars and chose UCLA my surgeon will be Dr Mehran. I had my surgeon consult, psychiatric evaluation & meeting with the nutritionist 2 weeks later. Psych eval & meeting with nutritionist went great. Consult wasss going fine, until he saw I had a history of GERD and requested I have an endoscopy to rule out Barrett’s Esophagus. I said OK,but then he says if you have Barrett's the sleeve is not a option. I almost passed out. Then he looks up and calmly says you can have the RNY. So I left with all the requirements to meet before my pre op appointment sch for 3/30 and surgery scheduled for 4/30. Unable to get appointment with gastroenterologist until next week. And who knows how long it will take for me to schedule the endoscopy. So I had to reschedule the pre op and the surgery date to ensure I have taken the test and have the results back. So My new surgery date is for May 10. I really don't want a RNY,so I pray the results will be negative. It was requested I loose 12 to 15 lbs before surgery.Being a professional dieter I am sure I can get down to 235

I have purchased some Unjury chicken soup, protein shakes, Isopure etc. I wont have to worry so much about shelling out additional money. I already have to get a hotel room a day before surgery, lets just say it is not cheap. It took me 3 hours in traffic to get to my consult. I will be nervous already but being in traffic for hours will have me spinning. So being in the area the day before will take the edge off.

I am looking forward to having the surgery & all that comes with it. All I can see is coming off the high blood pressure medication and losing all kinds of weight. I can see it now The Loft, Banana Republic, J Crew..... this is too much

Love ya, Yvette
