I am 41 years old and have been overweight most of my life. I have a wonderful husband who supports me through everything I do...I have to admit he is not really happy about this surgery...He says that he wants me to do what makes me happy but he is just scared of me having some kind of complications...I also have 2 wonderful children ages 21 and 12. I love my family very much and that is my main reason for the surgery...
I have tried so many weight loss programs and every time I would lose it seemed as though I gained back double...Over the last couple of years I have started having some health problems which of course are related to being overweight...My knees, legs, hips and all other body parts tend to hurt when I do anything..What really made me decide to have the surgery was in January 2008 I was told that my cholestrol was off the charts...And of course had to be put on medicine for that...My doctor also told me that my blood sugars were beginning to rise and that is what really got to me...At that time I was 40 years old and I know that with age problems start happening but if you are overweight those things happen even quicker...
I called Dr. Sticklers office in March and had an appointment scheduled for March 17...My aunt who had weight loss surgery 1 year ago went with me to the appointment...She is my inspiration...I had to go through the 6 months of weigh-ins in order to get approved for the surgery...Finally finished all that and was approved for surgery...I went to Dr. Stickler on Monday, September 15th and we discussed different types of surgery...I have decided to go with the VSG (vertical sleeve)...My surgery date is set for October 7th...I have to admit that now a date is actually scheduled I am getting a little nervous as well as anxious...I am putting it all in God's hands and I know he will get me through it...
