Mitchell S. Roslin

"So far Dr. Roslin was a really nice guy, he spent an unheard of amount of time with me in my consult, his office staff are all really sweet and helpful. Dr. Roslin was pretty blunt with me about the surgery not being a weight loss surgery but an eat less surgery. He told me the risks and everything I needed to know and he came VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by several people I know. I haven't had the surgery yet, but so far, so good! :)rnrnPost-oprnrnWell, Dr. Roslin and I really didn't get along on one big topic, pain and anxiety. He promised my mother during a 20 minute phone call that he would arrange for a shot of valium for me pre-op to keep me calm and he never did it. I know the other surgeons give you something in most of the hospitals and I was ready to switch surgeons but he promised me he would accommodate me. He never did, and not even a word about it. He showed me his pager to show me that he was never paged. Afterwards he didn't think I should be in pain worthy of a pain pump, despite the fact I was in a lot of pain, and came into the recovery room to lecture me on the benefits of using mind over matter instead of telling me how well the surgery went. I was barely coherent and I am getting lectured. He didn't want to give me the pain meds I needed because he didn't think I should need them, and compared my experience to the experience of him having his knee drilled into a week or two prior and how he didn't need the meds, and I was very upset about it. But apparently you need to have some level of toughness for this operation that I didn't have, and I was very unhappy about it. Admittedly I am a big baby and needed a lot of coddling, but I didn't feel a battle over pain management was appropriate. In the end his assistant, Dana, who was SUCH a sweetheart helped me out and got me what I needed. She also made it a point to post on this website during the discharge speech that if anyone is going to be using Dr. Roslin and they have any concerns regarding their hospital stay that they should contact Dana prior to arriving and that her number can be obtained by calling Dr. Roslin's number. Bottom line is that Dr. Roslin is a nice guy and a very skilled surgeon, but as far as bedside manner goes and compassion and respect for my own experience, I really didn't have a very good experience with that aspect at all. Someone who is less sensitive and a little tougher might have a completely different take on the same experience, but it was quite upsetting to me. I will still go to him for follow-up, so if you read this, Dr. R, don't be mad, it was what it was.rnrn2 year UPDATE:rnSince then Dr. Roslin has been really supportive with me as time went on. He is very willing to give me adjustments whenever I need one and always fits me in when I can make it in. I have also started seeing Dr. Shah. Overall my opinion has changed with the experience and would highly recommend :)"

Lenox Hill

"Overall the only good experience I had with this hospital was once I was in my room. The nurses were very nice. The pre-op system here was very impersonal and factory-like and the nurses did NOTHING to try and make me feel better and lied about paging my doctor and his PA to get me a shot of Valium he had promised me pre-op to keep me calm. They almost went out of their way to be as cold as possible. I was separated from my family almost immediately and sat by myself for an hour before a nurse let them back in, and most of the time I was sitting by myself. The PA assigned to me didn't even TRY to get a vein to get my blood and said she wasn't comfortable doing it. She was honestly very incompetent and the one who lied about paging my surgeon. My anesthesiologist was not very nice and he didn't care about what I had to say about any of my concerns. I swear they put me under way before my surgery started to shut me up. The OR people ignored me and the nurse they sent for me was maybe like 18 years old and he also ignored me. The recovery room was a nightmare. I was in pain and everyone was ignoring me until one nurse told me she was MY nurse. They all had insane attitudes and big power trips going on, and they ignored me when I was telling them I was in pain! They let my mother into recovery for literally 2 minutes and kicked her out. I sat in recovery for 5 hours because I demanded a pain pump and that whole process added 2 hours to the recovery experienced. I finally got to my room and it was steaming hot. I had read to bring a fan so I was prepared. All seemed to be well and then at 4:30 am I got a neighbor and they brought her in like the end of the world was coming. They had NO regard for the fact there was another patient laying there and did NOTHING to minimize the amount of commotion or chaos. I disconnected my vital equipment and no one came ot reconnect it all night. The alarms from the IV never ended and every time they pumped me full of drugs to sleep I was awakened by an alarm. The nurses on the floor were great, but pre-op and post-op I would NOT recommend this hospital for the surgery experience. Everyone had an attitude and no one wanted to be bothered. I've seen other peoples' surgical experiences and I can tell you it didn't have to be this way. Oh, if you go here and want a private duty nurse, which I consider to be the most invaluable thing to have, request Kathy Edwards. She was a doll and made my stay quite pleasant."
