Back Home
May 11, 2007
Well, I got back from the hospital today. Sore, sore, sore. But in decent spirts all around. Jus focusing on sip, sip, sip. CMC Mercy was a great hospital; staff was great, and Dr. V rocks.
Everything's a Go!
May 03, 2007
Well, I was at CMC Mercy yesterday, met with the anesthesiologist and everything is ready on that end. Had my final meeting with Dr. V. today and everything is ready. Now the final countdown. I've been having conflicting feelings today. Not about the surgery but about giving up my old eating comfort foods. That went on and on till I reviewed why I was doing this surgery and if I didn't do this surgery, what were the alternatives. I feel much better this evening about my decision.
One week till surgery
Apr 30, 2007
One week to go! I have completed 1 week of the liquid diet. Lost 12 lbs. I've consumed mass quantities of SF popsicles. Meet with Dr. V tomorrow and also need to go to the hosptal for my previsit. Everything's on track although my wife is very concerned and emotional about my chances of dying from the surgery. Sigh... I told her I don't want to go through life feeling fatigued all the time, joints hurting from carrying too much weight. This definitely makes it tougher.
April 24, 2007
Apr 23, 2007
Almost down to two weeks. I'm going to start my liquid diet today. Ironic because I have to go to Washington DC and host a team dinner for the people that work for me. I am excited though and curious also how my body will adapt to the surgery. Since I'm a computer desk jock, I'm hopeful that the recovery time will be minimal. I do plan to use a lot of this time to catch up on my reading for grad school.
Later in the day...thank God for sugar free popsicles.

Countdown

Pretty excited! I have my surgery date now. Less than 3 weeks away!
Patience, hell!!! I'm going to kill something!
Apr 03, 2007
So here it is April 3 and I'm still waiting for them to get the insurance package together. They told me it would go out early this week. If it's not done by the end of the week, I'm changing to Dr. Bauman. Well, not really, but patience isn't one of my strongest characteristics.
Bloodwork Done
Jan 16, 2007
Yesterday, I went to my doctor and had the bloodwork drawn. Includes a test to prove that I haven't been smoking for 3 months. Havent' had a cig now since October so I better not get a bs reading saying I've smoked. .
Doc was telling me that he thinks my having WLS is a good decision and statistically, I have a much better chance of extending my life with this option. If I didn't have WLS, my chances of losing enough weight to reduce my co-morbidities would be very slim.

Downer
Dec 13, 2006
Kind of a downer today. I'm going to be doing quite a bit of work related travel starting in February, Most of this lasts a year. I was hoping to have my surgery in late January to give myself more time to recuperate. However, because I was a smoker, I have to wait till mid January to have my blood work. So, looks like I'll be having surgery probably in Feb.

Had the stomach bacteria test and Upper GI test. Now it's just more waiting till my 3 month "no smoking" purgatory ends and I can have my bloodwork completed.
