I don't think anyone can say I am not a patient person.

Oct 09, 2008

It is October and I am still waiting for my surgery.  My surgery was to be October 7th but my surgeon called me on October 1st to tell me he would not be able to perform my surgery due to an injury to his hip.  He had arranged for another physician in his group to take my case.  He said the same schedule would be arranged and it was all set.  The next morning the nurse called me to say that my surgery had to be rescheduled.  The other physician had jury duty the next week and couldn't do it as planned.  My new date is October 17th.  So I started my liquid diet again yesterday and I am preparing to be ready for my surgery soon, I hope.  I feel that with all the delays I have had, there is a reason so I accept it.  When the time is right, it will be done.  I have read and read so I feel I am well prepared.  I ask that you all pray for me.  I am so looking forward to feeling good and being able to exercise more.  Thank you all for all the words of encouragement and advice offered on this great website.  You are a wonderful group of losers and I mean that in the nicest way.

I weathered a hurricane to get my surgery date.  Hurricane Ike was heading for the Gulf of Mexico and I had my appointment with my surgeon on Friday in Mobile.  I made it, the mailman has nothing on me. LOL.  My surgery will be on October 7.  I will go back September 22 for pre-op labs,  x-ray and ekg.  I wish to thank all of you wonderful people who have shared your profiles and problems on this site,  you have helped me and so many others make our decisions whether to have this surgery or not.  I don't feel alone in this anymore.

I can't believe I missed a whole month without updating my profile.  I had my sleep study on June 3rd and 4th.  I discovered I have sleep apnea so I am using a c-pap but I don't tell a big difference...my nose gets stuffy.  The doctor said it would help so I am using it.  I hope and pray that the surgery will improve that so I don't have to use it too long.  I was notified Friday, Aug. 15, that my insurance has approved my surgery and I will start my BEGIN program on September 12.  I am having my surgery in Mobile, AL,  it is a four hour drive from my home.  I am beginning to get anxious and it will probably get worse before it gets better.  I have been making small changes so that my system will be use to some of the things I will have to be doing.  I am so determined to make this opportunity work for me.  I have been so inspired by the beautiful people who have shared their journals on this website.  YOU ALL have made
such a difference and give me so much encouragement that I feel you have helped me in this long journey.  Thus far it has been a very informative one, I have learned things that will stay with me for life.  I have so much compassion for each and everyone of you and the trials and tribulations you have gone through.  Your sharing has been a blessing to me and I want to say a great big thank you .

I will update again as soon as I get my surgery date.

It is already June and I was scheduled for a sleep study on 9th and 10th but they called from the hospital yesterday and I was offered the chance to have it done last night.  I jumped at the opportunity to get it over.  I was told this morning that I did have sleep apnea so if there is another opening tonight, I will go back for the second night.  That was a real experience to be connected to all those wires and still think you can sleep like you normally do....NOT!!!  It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  So my wait will proceed with the anticipation of receiving the letter of approval.

I am starting my journey to become a loser....wow....I never thought I would say that about myself.  It is going to be an adventure of a lifetime and I want to enjoy every minute of it.  I am a positive person so I refuse to acknowledge that there is a chance I won't succeed.  I am claiming that success now and refuse to let go.  My purpose for wanting the weight loss surgery is not only cosmetic....I need it to correct some surgeries that have not gone so well.  Hoping that the weight loss will help alleviate the pain that I have now.  The past 5 years has been an emotional roller coaster.  Having lost my husband of 38 years and my dad; plus going through 3 major surgeries.  It has made me a more determined person for having gone through it.  I want to be the best that I can be, so I am forging ahead on my journey.  I hope along the way I will make new friends and maybe help others who are desperate for help.

Make my sixth monthly visit to my family physician last Tuesday to satisfy my insurance company and now I will wait for their approval.  I have been doing my homework and reading all I can.  I would appreciate any and all advice you can give me.  I tried to upload a photo but I kept getting an error message, will try again later.  I have apnea tests scheduled for June 9th and possibly 10th.  My dieting has been almost at a standstill for the last 4 months.  I have thought about trying the liquid diet to see how I am going to do on it.   I am keeping my fingers crossed.
