8 Month Surgiversary!

Aug 06, 2009

Wow...8 months already!
Today I'm down 113 lbs! That's 51% EWL and my BMI is 41.  I only have *3* more pounds to go to be lower than I EVER got with my RNY!!  I lost 100lbs. with my RNY and then about 2 years later lost another 15 by doing a lot of exercising and pretty much starving myself on SlimFast.  (I don't really count those extra 15lbs as RNY loss, but for now I'm counting them).
I'm pretty happy with the DS eating lifestyle.  Each day I have to make sure I get in all of my supplements, get enough fluids and enough protein.  It's not something that just comes 'naturally', I have to think about it and make sure since it is so very important.  Sometimes I drink a protein shake and most days I do have a protein bar (because I like them!).  I am not counting carbs but I am very aware of them. I really don't eat simple carbs but enjoy some complex carbs.  I love being able to eat full Fat with no guilt!  Love eating bacon, gravy, butter...not altogether, but you know what I mean.  :-) (and my cholesterol was great!)  I really don't feel deprived.  That may change with time but at this time I don't really have carb cravings...it's weird that I actually crave protein!
I'm still having problems with low blood pressure and will be seeing a cardiologist this week about that.  I hope I'll be lucky and they'll be able to give me a prescription to help with that.  Keeping my fingers crossed!
That's it for now...be back in a month!   :-)

WOW, Awww & blood pressure stuff

Hi Everyone!   :-)
I'm 7 months post-op now and had a Wow today!  I lost 99lbs. and have been stuck there for what seemed like two very long weeks!  Ugh!   Well, today I weighed and I skipped right over the 100lbs and can officially say that I've lost 101 lbs. since my revision from RNY to DS !  Wooohoooooo!!!

It's been a very nervous 2 weeks for me because this is when I stopped losing with my RNY. I hit the 100lbs. lost mark and then it just stopped. I did lose 15 more pounds about 2 years later but I don't credit the RNY for it at all, it was because I was doing SlimFast and excercising like crazy.  And then once I hit the 115lbs. lost, it started creeping back.  So the past 2 weeks I've been wondering if this is just my body's happy place which would be crazy.  My faith is renewed today and I KNOW the DS is going to keep working for me!   :-)   It will be a HUGE day for me when I pass that 115 lbs. lost mark and I'm looking forward to it already!

My 'Awwww' for the day was when I called my husband to tell him the news. He congratulated me and then told me to go out to his shed after I hung up. Well, I went out there and there was a big sign that he had carved that read: Happy 100 !  He did it 2 weeks ago when I hit 99..  LOL  Wasn't that sweet of him?  He has been so supportive through all of this. My parents too, they were excited about my big day too and they bought me some HUGE scallops for my celebration dinner. yum!

As for the 'other stuff'...I am still having trouble with feeling dizzy and faint. It's been going on since I left the hospital. At first I thought it was just because of my long hospital stay and complications, thought I just needed to recover.  Then I thought it was because of the rapid weight-loss. But I kept reading how most of you had more energy then before and it just wasn't happening. When Dr. Husted went over my 6month labs on the phone he said it sounded like I had orthostatic hypertension and instructed me to try a supplement but it hasn't helped unfortunately. I went to my regular physician today and the diagnosis was confirmed. When I stand up my blood pressure is dropping a crazy amount and then my heart rate goes way up trying to compensate. I end up sweating, feeling weak, faint and nauseous. I can't exercise..can't even browse at the store. Everything is hurry up-get it done-and sit back down!  Showers still suck..have to wash the important parts and get the heck out so I can rest.   I can walk for a little while but getting up, and/or standing still doesn't go well.  My MD referred me to a cardiologist so hopefully they will be able to figure out something. I feel hopeful...at least I know for sure what it is now, that's the first step to getting better!

Thank-you again to everyone that posts here.  I am always learning new things and appreciate the time that so many of you give to others.

Now where the heck do I get my Century Club card?????

Century Club!! Woohoo!

After being stalled at 99lbs. lost for TWO long weeks...the scale moved today!!  I skipped right over the 100lbs and can now officially say that I've lost 101 lbs. so far!!   :-)
I'm 7 months post-op and that makes my BMI 43 and my EWL is 48%.   Still a long way to go, but getting there!
This amount is when I stopped losing with my RNY.  I stopped at 100lbs. gone and that was pretty much it, I just held there for a long time.  I did lose an additional 15 lbs. about 2 years later by doing SlimFast and excercising like crazy...I really don't credit those 15lbs. to my RNY at all.   It will be a huge accomplishment for me to get past that point and I know the DS will get me there and more!    :-)

5 month Surgiversary

May 05, 2009

5 months post-op today!
I am down 74 lbs., 14 lbs. since last month.
I'm still behind where I should be at my BMI and I really don't stand much of a chance at being at 50% EWL by 6 months. I'd have to lose 25 lbs. or so by June 5th to be at 50% EWL.  I am trying not to be stuck on the numbers but it's hard. I want so much to succeed at this, especially after the failed RNY, but I am also trying to remind myself that this is not a sprint..it's a marathon!  :-)
I have noticed recently that I'm able to walk a bit further and at a faster pace. I'm not up to any long walks but I do notice an improvement.  I have dropped 2 sizes and really need to go clothes shopping!  My stomach seems to be stretching, I can definitely eat more lately. I wish we could afford to just have seafood all the time, YUMMY!!!  I very rarely have any gas at all (although egg salad is the devil!) and my bathroom issues have improved so much that it is unbelievable! Things are so much better in that area since being revised.
So far I haven't been really craving sweets or even carbs really. I am too busy shoveling in protein all day. I hope it stays this way for a long time.
The only real problem I'm having is with weakness/dizziness. I still feel totally worn out after a shower. And although mentally I have energy, when I actually go to do something I get pooped very quickly. Especially bending over..I feel woozy. I can't imagine that I'm dehydrated because I do get my fluids in everyday. It might be my blood pressure. I need to get on the ball and have that checked out but the thought of going to any doctor again just isn't very appealing yet!
So, that's it.
Stay tuned for the big 6 month update!!!   :-)
