My First Fill!

Jun 18, 2010

I survived!!  As today's Dr's appt got closer and closer i started to get more apprehensive knowing that first fill was going to happen.  I don't like needles and was dreading this part of the process.  My doctor even laughed and said it was interesting that I chose this route knowing i would have to get these injections.  Go figure!!!  Well, it went smoothly, alot easier than i imagined. My doctor had music playing and we just talked about other things and before you knew it he told me i could relax it was all done and i couldn't believe it.  Now that was the toughest hurdle for me to get over, now i can focus on moving forward and lose, lose, lose!!   It's back to liquids for 24 hours, then soft foods the next 24 and as long as all is going well i will be back on solids the following day.  Got the ok, to get back on my full exercise regimen and get back into the pool for my water aerobics next week!  i can't wait!  Been so anxious to get back in the water!  Now things are starting to get exciting that i'm feeling better and can start to be get active again.  I'm a little under 4 lbs away from my first goal of losing 50lbs since i started this whole jourey!!  My treat is going to be shopping for a new bike this weekend!  Haven't been on one in over 10 years!!!   Hope its true what they said that you never forget how to ride a bike!!!!

First week back to work

Jun 12, 2010

Wow, what a week!  Started out going back to work on my birthday (full day) everyone complimented me on how well i looked which made me feel good.  Eating at work does seem easier than being at home. I seem to manage it better for some reason.   Finally made it through the day and had the hour long drive home from work and had to go right to the high school for graduation ceremony.  Once that was over we ended up going out for dinner. (chinese buffet!  lol)  Whats interesting is i did not have to pay for the buffet.  The waitress told me for my situation i would be better off buying food buy the pound.  That worked out perfectly!  I took enough that even let me bring home left overs for lunch the next day.  All for $2.87 versus 9.95 for the buffet!  lol   Finally home at 10pm  I was wiped out and down for the count what a long first day back to work.  I was so tired i tossed and turned trying to sleep and i made the mistake of trying to sleep on my left side for the first time which actually hurt so back to tossing and turning.

Woke up Tuesday with horrible pain on my left side. went to work and had this pain all day.
Wednesday still had pain and stayed home from work already and called the doctor.  They said muscle spasms were common during the first 8 weeks after surgery and i had probably pulled a muscle when i turned on my side while sleeping.  ughhhh.

Along with this pain now that i have had for so many days it hasn't helped that i haven't had a BM in 3 days, starting to wonder if i had some kind of blockage from something i tried eating and didnt chew enough.   So against better judgement on Thursdays ride home from work i got a Medium Iced Coffee figured if anything was going to open the gates THAT would do it and by the time I got home "tada!!!!!!"  it worked!!!  Interesting enough a few hours after that movement happened the pain went down on the left side.
Soooo all in all i guess this was a learning experience for me, looking back on Mondays birthday dinner out, this was my first day of solid food and i think i jumped the gun and had a piece of beef that was just too tough to pass through so my lesson is going to be just take it easy on the foods i choose from here on out.......

Hopefully next week will go alot smoothers.....(fingers crossed)

Memorial Day- 15 days post-op (lapband)

May 31, 2010

Wow!  All the anxiety and  fears I had  prior to surgery and here it is 15 days post-op done and over,  I'm on my way!!!!  Went to the doctor Friday, lost 7lbs since surgery (5/17).  I actually was 312lbs when I started my journey, started pre-op diet at 297lbs, day of surgery i was 278lbs..I am now 271lbs..So all in all i've lost 41lbs already.....So I did not get to start my blog from the day of surgery but so far all is going well.  No problems eating or drinking, only discomfort  have now is mainly around my main incision where the port is.  Of course this can be expected.
I have just finished my liquid/pureed foods this week and look to starting with soft foods tomorrow!  I was supposed to go back to work tomorrow but after doctor appt. on Friday my doctor gave me the extra week since my stomach was still sore.  I drive an hour back and forth to work and sitting at a computer all day would have been too rough on my stomach.  So my homework for this week is to work on sitting in a computer chair and work on increasing the time i sit upright versus laying back on the couch!  Walking is getting better, able to last a little longer without getting winded.  We went shopping at Super Walmart tonight for a bit so i could get out of the house and i do think i overdid it there.  I was wore out and sore by the time i got home.
I am so excited to be doing as well as i am.  I am really looking forward to the journey ahead and hope to meet some friends on here that are hopefully at the same stage i am and would like to share their journey with me also.
Have a great day all!
