Hi my name is Teri, I live in Westerly. I grew up in Jersey and I think I started gaining weight when I was about 11. My mother use to pray when I was little that I would gain weight because I was just a really skinny little girl....SHE PRAYED TOO MUCH!!! lol Well fast forward....I have been struggling with my weight for about 20 years ... I've tried every diet, and nothing.... I have type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea....I'm 46 and I feel like the fattest person in the world. I am 5'4 and 247 lbs...I want to lose 100 lbs...It seems like it's impossible but, reading all the good stories here have made me a believer....I was approved for my surgery after being denied. They told me that I didn't have at least 6 months of a doctors supervised diet, well my doctor appealed it and a week later I received the approval letter. Now I have basically all my pre op testing done, I have to go for my gall bladder ultrasound tomorrow and my abg and then the hidascan and blood work. I've been waiting for my packet to come from Dr. Roye's office...I can't wait to get my date...Well I will update as soon as I receive my packet...

2/26/06 *****I received my packet yesterday!! I'm on my way. I've had all the tests done except for the hydascan and the bloodwork before surgery. They don't have a few of the results yet from some of the other tests that I took already, so tomorrow I will be on the phone finding out where the results are.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well I called Dr. Roye's office and was told that they did have many of my results and I scheduled my last few tests, the hidascan, the chest xray and the bloodwork for monday 3/06/06. Then I will walk right up to his office and schedule my appointment and hopefully he will give me my date!!!! I really can't wait. I've been heavy for so long and I really want to be healthy! It has been since my first meeing in November, I had with Helen. I stopped smoking that day, I quick caffine and it was tough but I did it. I know I can stick to this new way of life and become the person that I am on the inside. (does that make sense?)
3/31/06--I had my meeting with Dr. Roye today...my tests were all fine, cept for my gallbladder...it's pretty bad...I've been having these weird pains between my shoulder blades, (I call it my wings LOL) and a burning pain on my right side of my stomach...i just thought they were gas pains or something....well I found out what
they were...lately i've been getting fevers quite often too..and that is all part of it...anyways, he is booking his surgeries into July now, and he and I don't want to wait that long, in case this gallbladder decides that its gotta go sooner....I have never had an operation and I want just one....so he referred me to his partner, Dr. Beth Ryder...I will meet with her next week and schedule my date...I'm hoping its this month some time cuz I'm really nervous about my gallbladder..Well i will update as soon as I know anything more....keep me in your prayers...
Dr Ryder is terrific, she is very young, but very intelligent. She made me feel very at ease. She's a Jersey Girl!! I'm originally from Jersey and that kinda made me feel better...I don't know why, but its a Jersey Girl kinda thing!
4/10/06--Well 9 more days to go....feeling excited, scared, anxious....happy. a little more scared..lol...
I made a living will...I have to have it notorized and have 2 witnesses sign it. Just in case......that was kinda scary for me...but i want to make sure that its my say what happens to me...ya know? I don't want that put on my family....
4/11/06 ** WHOOHOO ** I lost 7 lbs....I have to lose 10 before surgery....I can't believe it...in 8 days I lost 7 lbs...I hope the next 3 will be as easy...just 8 days and I'll be on the losing side....
Ya know I reread my profile and I didn't tell you about my family. My husband Brian is wonderful...He was hesitant at first about the surgery, but he is being very supportive now. My oldest daughter's name is Sharlene, she is 19 in college in Florida and we just found out that she is going to have a baby...we are happy...I don't believe in abortions. My oldest Son's name is Brian, he is a senior in high school, he is a great kid, he's smart, handsome and just an all around good person. My 3rd child is Tim, he's a great kid too, He's handsome and smart but he is having a few problems right now, teenage stuff, but he'll be alright...he's a Junior in high school...Then there is my youngest....my baby, Suzie, she is a freshman, she's a beautiful girl, she's momma's baby....Well they are another reason I am doing this...I want to be the best wife & mom I can be for them.
4/13/06--I went to my informative meeting today for pre-post op nutrician and pt and nursing care today, it was great, very informative. I met a few girls that are having surgery around the same time as me...we were all giddy and stuff it was really fun. I met Kristen who is having surgery the day after me, we are going to be walking buddies...she's fantastic...she's so bubbly....only 5 more days and its the big day!!!
4/17/06--Well its almost here..tomorrow is my day..I have to be at the hospital at 6:30am. I'm happy, excited, scared and nervous.
Today has been kind of hard, it is full liquids and I had to take the phosphsoda to clean me out. I can't even leave my room or bathroom. I know its the beginning of my new life, so I am going to follow it to the T.
4/23/06--Well I got home from the hospital on 4/21/06 I begged the doc to get me outta there. As far as what I remember, not much, I remember getting into my gown, and then the anesthiaologist(sp) came in and said hi and that was it...then I was in this step down unit, i guess recovery..I found out later that my gallbladder was really hard to find, it was in between my liver, and the doc had to work really hard at getting it..it took 8 hours for the whole surgery...I was in step down for 2 days. I had the tube in my nose that sucked, but it was better when they took it out of me.
Everyday seems to be a little better. I was in so much pain in the hospital I couldn't even get comfortable. Then the first night home, i was walking basically all night...then the next day last night, I slept in my bed and it felt so good. Getting the liquids in is really hard...I'm not hungry at all. Its funny, my daughter made dinner for the family tonight, beef stirfry, and rolls...do you know the only thing that got to me was the rolls...guess thats the italian in me lol...So I had my cream of chicken soup...mashed up one of those rolls and put it in my soup....and I ate not all of it...but it was good.
It's been 12 days since surgery, I'm feeling great...I'm down 20 lbs and still off all my diabetes meds and lipitor. I see my pcp on tuesday and I'm hoping to get off my bp meds...wouldn't that be a hoot! I bought an excersie bike so along with my treadmill it is in my living room and its beginning to look like a gym in there lol...but hey, its worth it if I get on them and burn that fat away....my hubby isn't too happy that my livingroom is so crouded right now, but hey....tough noogies to him...but I caught him in there too....he's got a beer belly and well he's trying to shape up cuz he's a sun god and well that beer belly makes him look likes he's preggers lmao....
Today I'm going to the mall with my best friend Kat and the kids, I think the walking will do me some good....
Well it's been 2 weeks since surgery, down 22 lbs...I went to the support group meeting last night, it was my first wow moment I think...I hadn't seen my friend Rose or Dr Ryder since surgery, and I guess 22 lbs is alot cuz they were amazed...I only can see it in my face, but they said I looked fantastic....It made me feel so good...
I am up at 5AM every morning, these days, and I don't know why..I have more energy and I just want to start the day...usually by about 9 or 10 pm i'm in bed already, maybe thats why...I use to walk the floors until like 2am trying to fall asleep...I guess this is an all around amazing change of life thing....
I love this board, last night at the meeting everyone kept coming up to me saying your Teri right? they knew because of my picture...but I hadn't a clue who anyone was cuz they don't have pics...not fair..lol..
Well its been 3 weeks since my surgery...i'm down 28 lbs...I'm so excited, this is really working for me. I started going to curves and ever since i've been losing a pound or more a day...I hope this keeps up...
People are starting to tell me they can see i'm losing weight....that's a wow moment for me..
Boy it's been 1 year since my surgery, I can't believe it. I am now 130 lbs lighter and feeling like I can take on the world.
My life is totally different in the way I feel. I feel like I'm 20 years younger too. People i've know all my life cannot believe its me. I would do it again in a second. Dr Ryder changed my entire life...Kudo's to her.
This is my family....
