Six days post op.

Jul 18, 2011

Well, after 40 years of being the "big guy" wherever I was or whoever I was with I finally decided in April 2011 to commit to Gastric Bypass Surgery (Roux en Y).  At 371 llbs, BMI 52, diabetic, sleep apnea, lower leg edema, to name but a few of the physical conditions related to obesity and the social issues it was time.  Fortunately, my employer covers 100% of my healthcare and related costs so I could be referred to any surgeon as a self- paying client so my wait time was amazingly short.  I was referred to Dr. Christou in Montreal in May and I had surgery on July 12, 2011.  I consider myself extremely fortunate.  I really do believe that the wait times in this country are actually the exasperation of many people who not only want this surgery but absolutely need it.  This is a whole other debate...

I only have words of praise and appreciation for Dr. Christou and his team.  The surgery went as scheduled.  I received all of the information I needed to move forward with the surgery and quite frankly, Dr. Christou put me very much a peace with my decision.

I am six days post op, already 25 lbs lighter ( including pre opt diet) and feeling better.  I diabetes is already in remission and I can see my ankles again.  So far, I have tolerated the pureed diet very well and I haven't experienced any difficulties or cramps, etc...

I really do believe I have control of my life again...
