First, I want to say thank you to everyone for their support. It meant a great deal to me!!! Rhonda, thanks for all your support and I left early Thursday, so I am sorry you weren't able to get over before I left, but I am feeling so good, it was for a good reason :) Ya'll are the greatest bunch in the world, ya'll should just know that!!! OK here is my last 5 days!!! Tuesday was surgery day, my surgery was in the morning and miracle of miracles I was able to sleep fairly well the night before. I got up at 4 am, to get together the rest of the stuff I needed for the hospital (baby wipes, chapstick, fan, pillow), and I listened to some SoundScapes to chill me out. I got to the hospital at 5:30, went to admitting and from there it was a bustle!! By the time I got into the prep room, I was nervous. Everyone came in to see me....my Dr's, the anaesthesiologist, and one of the surgical team. From there I can honestly say I don't remember anything till 1:30 that afternoon. My surgery was 2 hours and 20 minutes and it started at 7:20. I will tell you when I woke up I was groggy...but they made me get up and walk to the door. I didn't get back up or wake up until 4:30 that afternoon, when I got up and walked again. Went back to bed and back to sleep, got up at 8:30 and walked again. I didn't have a morphine drip but I used the shot every 6 hours.... I will say that first day, I don't remember much, just walking and sleeping that went on till 4:30 am... Wednesday which I was awake for more of. I made myself get up and walk every 3 hours which I think helped immensely. I had the barium swallow test about 8 in the morning, that was horrible and painful and the only time I have thrown up in the entire process. However, it went well because they took me off my IV at noon that day and gave me my first meal. Jell-O, Protein drink, Ice Tea, Chicken Broth, some kind of fruit juice. No they don't expect you to drink it all, just taste it all. I didn't drink much at all and found that swallowing water was tough. Ice on the other hand was much easier, so I ate ice instead. Going to the bathroom, was a bit rough in the beginning. I had a ton of visitors on Wednesday, so I was awake most of the day...I think I took one nap for about an hour. Dinner was a little bit easier to drink and I could get down a little bit more than I did at lunch. I only took 2 pain shots on Wednesday....I went to bed early that night and woke up about every 2 to 3 hours and yes I made myself get up and walk..... Thursday I woke up with a fever, most likely due to the fact that one of my incisions was slightly irritated. It made me miserable, where I felt so good Wendesday....I felt like crap on Thursday. They didn't give me anything for the fever but they did change the dressings on my incisions (which I feel if they would have done sooner I would not have felt like I did...so please please please use your call button and make the nurses do what will make you feel comfortable). I saw the doctor at 9 and since he wanted to send me home the day before, he asked if I was ready to go home. I asked him about the fever (it was 100.3) and he said to take some liquid Tylenol and I will feel much better. He asked me to go talk to another one of his patients that wasn't wanting to get up and walk...so I did. I got all my stuff together, waited for a couple of people from my Dr's staff to come to talk to me and then I left the hospital. First thing I did was go to the apothecary and get my prescription for codeine, liquid Tylenol, and gas-x. I have to say that, I didn't measure my first shot of pain medicine...I took it in my parents truck on the way home. I still had a slight fever and was so ready to feel better!!! I got home about 1:45 that afternoon......and basically took a nap. When I woke up, I took a "shower"...I say that because one of the best gifts I got for a get better soon gift was a hand held shower thingie that would allow me to keep my incisions dry. I felt a 110% better. Now I was at home alone, something I chose to do...I don't like people around me while I am sick and to be honest it made me get up much more often. I will say the one thing I ended up calling someone to get for me, is more gauze to change the dressing around my drain. I will say most of Thursday was spent sleeping, eating Sugar free Popsicles (something I think I am addicted too LOL) and walking (10 minutes on the treadmill every 3 hours...not fast just up and walking). I did go to bed early Thursday night....unfortunatly fell asleep during CSI. I only slept about 2 hours at a time, getting up...walking and drinking then going back to bed. Friday, man I felt almost normal except what I was drinking and my drain...I will say that thing I will not miss when it is gone. I spent much of Friday watching TV and up on my feet. I managed to get in all 64 oz of my liquids, so I was feeling much more normal. I upped my walking to 10 minutes every 2 hours during the day and just concentrated on remembering to take my vitamins and starting some sort of pattern. I will say I had my first dumping experience...thank god not bad, as I just took small sips, but the protein drinks I bought just do not work with my body...they may further out, but right now no way. To be honest I am still trying to work that and find one I can drink. I stayed up all day Friday, no naps....but I did rest allot and noticed just how many food commercials are on TV. Yes, the liquid thing gets boring and I am lucky, I was put on full liquids before I left the hospital, so I am not restricted to just clear liquids, but it is boring. I have to remind myself that it is just temporary. I also noticed that I had hot flashes, just moments where I would just not be able to get cool no matter what I did......they were uncomfortable but would pass. I had a ton of gas Friday and that is when my mouth started tasting really bad (which I guess I expected, it is just nasty, however made me drink more a good side effect). I went to bed Friday night feeling pretty good :) Saturday, I was not as feeling as well as Friday, but still not bad. I spent the morning a bit uncomfortable, but by that afternoon I felt much better. I got out of the house and walked to the mailbox, that bit of fresh air did wonders...I felt great!!! Nothing exceptional on Saturday, just getting out a bit helped allot. Today, I feel good....I actually slept in my bed last night and was able to sleep on my side. I felt wonderful when I woke up this morning, got up did some walking, switched out my drain gauze, and had some breakfast. I decided to read some email and I opened up all the windows in the house, the fresh air is great!!! My biggest pains: My drain, I hate it. The liquid diet, boring. My shoulder, from gas is in constant pain (not bad just like you can't stretch it out far enough...icy hot helped some and the gas-x helps allot) My breath, yucky but it comes with the surgery My biggest surprises: How well I feel, I thought I would feel terrible and I don't How well I can handle liquids.....not bad I hope that helps someone, just remember this is just me. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, so I probably walked through some pain that others may not want too, but I swear it makes me feel much better. Everyone's body is different, but this has been my experience so far!!
