My story is soooo much like many others. I have battled with my weight all of my life and have tried every diet known to man kind! From Scarsdale (when I was 14), to Sugar Busters, to Atkins, to Weight Weighters, to Xenadrine, to Adipex. Most of these diets and diet pills worked for the short term and then I would eventually gain all the weight back plus more!
I am 40 years old and very happily married with 2 wonderful boys, age 6 and 11. We love to go to our lakehouse during the summer and also to the beach which we do at least twice a year. I have always been self conscious about my weight and most of my friends, no ALL of my friends are smaller than me. It is very disheartening to be around them in their cute little bathing suits and me trying to cover up every inch of my body. On the other hand, I love my friends and they have been so supportive of me and my decision to have WLS. I know I'll be in one of those cute bathing suits by next summer too!
I researched WLS about a year ago and made the decision that I was going to have the Lap Band, so with the support of my husband and family I took the plunge. I decided to use Dr. Drake Bellanger and Vista Surgical Center in Baton Rouge. I couldn't have made a better choice!! When I went to have all my pre-op testing done before the surgery, all the people at Vista were great. It was at this point that I started hearing about the VSG and decided to talk to the doctor about this option rather than the Lap Band. Boy am I glad I did that. I made the decision to go with the VSG about 2 weeks from my surgery date and that was the best decision I have ever made (except for the decision to marry my husband of course!)
I had my surgery on June 28th, 2007 and will never look back. To all of those out there researching which WLS to have, please make sure you get the most qualified opinions and information out there. Everyone is different and what works for one person may not work for another. I truly believe in the VSG and it's ability to be the best weight loss tool I've ever had. I can't wait to start seeing the results!!
