My story is a lot like many I've seen on here. Im 21 years old and Im going into my senior year of college. I have been overweight since about the age of 6. I always stayed pretty active, playing football since a very young age. As a child being big was much harder to deal wit, but as I got older I became more comfortable in my skin. I feel like I never let my weight stop me, I have always been pretty social, and my weight never really got me down. When I first got into college was when I really started seeing my weight as being a problem or a burden. I realized I wasnt as mobile, I was checking seats before I sat down to make sure they were sturdy enough to hold my weight (lol), and I just didnt have as much motivation to be as active as I used to be. On top of that, I take a lot of pride in my appearance. I figure if you big, you gotta be fresh, dressed to a T. You cant be big and sloppy........... bad combo lol. I can't always find my size in the clothes i wanna wear, and thats also become a big problem. All of this on top of the fact that diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity runs in my family, made me want better for myself and want to deal with this problem before it completely took over my life and I was plagued with all of these issues.
I first decided that I wanted to pursue WLS the summer after my freshman year of college. I had spent an entire semester working out everyday and sticking to a strict high protein diet, and after 5 months I hadn't lost hardly any  weight. I was searching the net and stumbled upon the lap-band procedure. I originally pursued having this surgery, and went through the whole insurance process, but I was denied in January 2007. After this setback, I decided that I would try a surgeon closer to my school in Bowling Green, OH. This is when I found my current surgeon Dr. Brian Lane. I also changed my mind, and started pursuing the gastric bypass procedure in the Summer of 2007. After countless appointments, prayers, and emotions, I was approved for the surgery in May 2008 and I will be having my surgery on July 7, 2008. This is truly a blessing from God, and i look forward to everything that it will bring. It is mine and I claim it.
