Wow, a year has gone by and I am feelin' great! I would like to thank Kyla Meyers, my ANGEL!!, for her update on me on my re-birthday the other day. I haven't had a chance to get on the computer too much lately-but I thought I'd stop in and give everyone my little update on how my life has changed in 1 year! I had my surgery (open rny) on January 14, 2002 at the BTC in Belvidere, Illinois by Dr. Eric Schlesinger. He did a fantastic job-my scar is short-about 5 1/2" and is paper thin-I wore my binder 24/7 for the first 3 weeks, I'm sure that helped. The pain that day and the next was unbearable-thanks to morphine, I made it thru-I walked the halls as much as I could and 4 weeks later I was back at work-I could have went back earlier-but I pay for short term insurance, why not use a little of it! I also think that waiting and not putting any stress on my body kept me from getting a hernia like I see a lot of people getting. Well, now it's been a year, I'm 5'2" and I started at 236 and I am down to 141-a loss of 95 pounds...I was going for the big "100" but I got pregnant the first week of October, so I haven't been feeling like doing much at all! I am worried about what Dr. Schlesinger will be saying to me about that when I go for my 1 year check up this wednesday! If anyone has had him as a surgeon and has been in my shoes, please write to me!! Anyway, just wanted everyone to know that this is the best thing I could have done for my life and I believe that I would not be pregnant right now if I hadn't done this, which was very important to me...my husband and I have been trying for the last 3 years and I am 36 with little time left on my clock-the older you get, the more risks there are for baby to be unhealthy. For those of you deciding on wls, do your research, you have to feel comfortable with your choice to ease everyone else's concern. If you think you can lose the weight without the surgery, go for it, if you don't think you ever will, well, look at all of your options, there are a lot of different types of wls' out there. This site is wonderful for helping you make that choice-THANK YOU ERIC KLEIN AND THE OBESITYHELP STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS for giving us this way of helping each other with our fears, feelings and joy! Good luck to everyone in their journey!
