1st year surg.
Jul 13, 2010
Well, today is the 1st ann. of my renewal! Damn! I feel great! I'm 155lbs down to 342 from a whopping 497.I was getting alittle bummed out because things have slowed down but we are still inching along. I'm down 4 shirt sizes and 10 inches off my waist. Gone from a 72 suit to a 58. I am enjoying this change soooo much. I sing in a band and my shows are full of so much more movement. I'm no longer a diabetic and my Bp. is on point. My workouts are crazy I walk/ cardio 4 days a week and lift 3. My 15 yr.old son and I hang out and workout together and that has really helped to improve our relationship. My daughter and I placed 2nd in the father/ daughter dance contest during date night (would have won but got beat by a guy with 4 daughters I can live with that) . As a bi product, other members of my family are becoming more health aware and working on their weight as well. I want to thank my wife for all the support and love she has given my during this time. I've got 85 lbs to go. I hope to make my goal by Dec. Next summer it'll be SPANDEX TIME!!!!!!

MISSION: SPANDEX

Well I finally decided to write a note or two. (5 months later)
About me, I'm a teacher and a coach and a singer in a band. I direct the choir at my church and do plays at the local theater. I am fat!! I'm cool with that.I've always been fat.I come from a line of fat folks.
I played ball for years and enjoyed being the BMOC (Big Man ON Campus). I had have many friends that love me for me and for that I thank God! I was always a bit of an introvert so I made up for it by being an extrovert. I've always tried to make others feel comfortable around me by being jovial and humorous.
As I got older, I found that others like the sound of my voice. This boosted my own sometimes uncertain self-confidence. As I entered my 40's I found out I was a diabetic and my weight continued to "balloon". I needed a change! I talked to one of my best friends (love you Robin!!) and we discussed the idea of the operation.
Living in Houston at the time, the show Big Medicine got my attention. I did my research but started to try to lose it on my own. I lost 50lbs I felt and looked good. In one year I gained the 50 back plus an extra 20 damn I was pissed! I had enough!
A year later I went to Dr. DeWitt and we started the process.I had psych evaluations and cardio test..... the complete battery of physical prognostication. They said I was a go 11 months later. I didn't tell some people at first because I didn't want them to try and talk me out of it.My mind was made up and that was that! Talking with other post-op OH members really helped me out and got me ready for the big game.
I had my operation on July 13,2009 in Baptist hospital in Birmingham Ala. I thought I had really messed up when I woke up in the ICU. I teach Science (7th grade) so I know just enough to be dangerous. I saw my Blood Pressure was really up and freaked out.I don't do anesthesia well and this was the result. I needed to calm down.
Three days later I was on my way out and ready to fight the good fight.I had the support of my family and friends and I felt real good about my chances (the hard part to me was over)the rest is up to me and the Lord.
Now some 4 months later I'm down 137 lbs and feeling fine. I don't mind telling people I had the operation. Dr.Dewitt said I could expect a 200lb loss but I'm looking for that extra 40 lb drop. He's a great Dr. with a really great staff.
So off we go trying to lose enough weight so I can look good in ......SPANDEX!!!
