My story

Oct 15, 2006

I have been overweight since Junior High.  In High School I weighed in at 307 lbs.  I'm 6 ft. 2 in. tall. When I turned 19 I moved to Italy and became very active and without any effort I got down to 250 and maintained that weight until I was 21.  I moved back to the states and wasn't active and slowly began eating more and before I knew it I was bigger than ever.  I weighed 315 and was fed up.  I started weight watchers and was very diligent.  I lost 90 lbs. in 6 months by counting points and exercising.  I kept the weight off for about 1 year but over the past 3 years I've slowly put it all back on and then some. I know that I can lose weight.  I'm actually pretty good at it.  The thing I know I can't do is keep it off.  Since I don't have the confidence to keep it off I given up on dieting.  In May 2006 my mom told me she was considering Lap Band surgery.  I'd heard of the Gastric Bypass but wasn't aware of other options.  She had the surgery in July.  I wanted to let her be the Guinea Pig before I made the leap.  I visited her two weeks post-op and was inspired by her ambition and hope to be healthy and fit.  I went to a pre-op seminar in August and since I was paying cash was able to have surgery just a month later.
