So I guess I should put a little something about my story... I'm 32, 1 kid, wonderful husband, a cat, some fish and am 5'4.5" tall.
I was relatively normal-sized for my childhood. Some bouts of being a little heavier, then thinned out some... I was happy with my weight until I was out of high school (at 170 lbs., admitting I could stand to loose some). Then not too much later, living on my own with my boyfriend (later turned husband), little money and cheap food meant fast food. This is about the time Burger King started their 99 cent Whopper campaign. What an awesome ticket on a budget - but how bad for your health! It didn't stop at burgers... I enjoyed all fast foods - pizza, tacos, sweets and all the things that I was limited to while growing up. I enjoyed it too much and started to gain.
Eventually, I did the classic diets - eat smarter and exercise. On my own, I started going down, then back up on the scale. I tried Weight Watchers a couple of times, Phen-fen, some other Phen-fen form combined with accupuncture, hiring physical trainers, etc. Some had decent results, and others minimal. The second time on Weght Watchers helped me a lot. I started dropping and lost about 50 pounds in time for my wedding day. I was still heavy, but was happy about the weight loss. My husband lost 100 pounds in the same time frame - it was awesome. During these years, I ranged anywhere from about 195 to 240 lbs.
After the wedding, I continued with minimal results and then got pregnant. Althought I followed my doctor's diet to the letter, I gained 80 pounds, hitting 302 at my highest during the pregnancy. I was retaining water like crazy and about 3 months in, my doctor told me to stop trying to workout or walk too much. I wasn't on bed rest, but had to take it easy, as my legs were swelling painfully when I did nearly any sort of excercise.
We had a healthy baby boy, and I dropped about 30 pounds over the following year after Bryce was born. The following year, I tricked down another 20 and stopped. I hopped on Jenny Craig (I really enjoy their foods) and found myself going down and up again. Anywhere between 240 and 260, with workouts 5 times a week. I would follow the Jenny diet to the letter and gain. I would then drop my calories, lower than Jenny recommended, cutting the calories down to 800 for a while, and would still just stick to my 250, give or take 5 pound, weight range. It was incredibly frustrating, and no matter what calorie range I tried, my body just adapted in no time.
I was now 3 years out from Bryce's birth, roughly 50 pounds down from my heaviest with him, but unable to really make the type of progress I needed to get healthy before another 10 years went by. History was starting to show that no matter what I would try, it only had minimal impact, and I would regain slowly the little bit I could loose on my own. My husband and I thought about lapband, and met with Dr. Jossart who showed us the advantages of VSG. We were sold pretty quickly. After running home, researching everything we could on it, talking to friends and discovering just how many people have had this sort of surgery with great success, we scheduled my own surgery date. Yes - there were hiccpus with the insurance part of it, but we were committed and paid ourselves so I wouldn't loose another year of being described as morbidly obese.
Medically, I must have been the fattest healthy person around. I was not on any meds, no blood pressure problems, perfect lab results on all tests.. It was nice, but frustrating at the same time. Mostly because, my insurance felt that I did not have any co-morbid condition to be convincing of such a surgery (which is why they refused to cover it - they want you to have other ailments before they elect to pay for this procedure). Meanwhile, my regular physician was so excited for me, telling me that now would be the ideal time for me to do this surgery and get into a healthier weight range before I develop diseases becaues of my weight.
Now, my goal is to loose as much as I can, before my body adapts to this new tummy and eating pattern. I have a stubborn system, and I want to keep tricking it so I can get as close to an ideal weight of 130 lbs as possible.
That's my "weight story."
