Thankful!

Nov 27, 2008

So, today is Thanksgiving...  As I begin today I can't help to stop and think how very grateful I am for  Weight Loss Surgery.  My life has changed in so many ways. I find myself in a dressing room trying on clothing that I picked up and they are too big (because it's hard to comprehend that I will fit in clothing that is so small).  I find myself parking on the last row of the parking lot and without even thinking walking into the store. There are the times when I exercise and don't break a sweat for 45min. I can walk and talk without feeling like I am going to pass out or pant so hard I have to stop and take a break. I can go to amusement parks and fit in all the rides and "want" to go on all the roller coasters and thrill rides.  Now I am the one who drops off and picks up.
I hope if you have not yet had your surgery you read this and say ...I can relate to all those things.  Let me say there is hope!  It's hard to fully grasp living life without all those things but it is so possible!  I will never take my new life for granted, I hope I will always remember how hard life was weighing 338 lbs.  Every move was painful and exhausting.
So on this Thanksgiving...I am giving thanks and glory to God for this wonderful new way of life. It has been more than I could ever have expected, but everything God has always wanted me to have!
My current weight is 182lbs.  Total pounds lost ....156lbs.

Surgery Date...Under 200 lbs!!!!

Oct 05, 2008

Well, It finally happened!  I reached under that 200lb mark.  I was beginning to think it would never happen, this was such a huge milestone for me, as it's been over 20 years since I've been under 200lbs. I'm offically 196lbs. Wow, that feels good to say!  I am very happy with my progress!  I am down 142lbs. in 10months.  I would like to be around 140lbs??? We will see.But to have 50-60Lbs in the future doesn't seem like a far stretch.
My Orthopedic doctor called late Friday and gave me a surgery date of December 16th. I am very excited for this to happen!  I am going to try and get off as much more weight as I can before surgery.  Even though the weight loss has slowed down signifigantly, I am ready to "work" at getting it off!
Once again, let me say how blessed my life has been. God has taken such good care of me. It's amazing how by turning over all of our fears and cares He gentley carries us to "His Best".

Hello...

Oct 02, 2008

Hello There,
Sorry I have not written for such a long time. I have just been super busy and time always seems to get away from me.
I went to the Orthopedic Surgeon on Monday. I was going to just see what he had to say about my hip. It has not gotten any better. Losing the weight has been great as far as taking off some of the pressure, but not being able to take any anti-inflamatories has kinda equaled out the pain level. frustrating!   He took X-ray's and told me I had the hip of an 80 yr old, and that I need a total hip replacement.  This is not new news to me, I have been suffering with this situation for 8 years. I was just always to heavy to have the surgery. I was expecting the surgeon to say I still needed to  loose another 40 lbs or so, but instead he said that he wants to do it now.  He seems to think that without an increase in my exercise I won't be able to drop the rest of my weight.  He put me on a water exercise only restriction.   So, I am trying to plan for a December hip replacement.  I am excited that this is finally happening. I have lived with this pain and limited lifestyle for so long, I can't imagine what life will be like with a brand new hip!  Whoo Hoo!
I have another great surgeon, His name is James Duffy.  Dr. Fedorak (my gastric surgeon) approved the hip surgery so all is a go!

My biggest Supporter!

Aug 16, 2008

I don't know why I have not written about my biggest supporter before now...???  I have such a great support system, my family and friends have been amazing!
My biggest supporter is my sweet husband, Sean.  Anyone who knows Sean, knows what a truly caring and sincere person he is to everyone. He speaks kindly and has a genuine truth in his words and actions.  He has loved me when I weighed over 300 lbs. and he loves me as I losing down to my goal. Sean has been there for me through every step of this process.  He has gone to every one of my support group meetings and lives as a daily support in all I go through. He is my biggest cheerleader and points out little accomplishents that I sometimes overlook.  I feel so proud to call him my husband.  I married well. I know  that I married the exact person that God created for me. What a wonderful and comforting feeling to have the one designed for me. I thank God for His wonderful gift in Sean!

Had coffee with another WLS friend

Aug 11, 2008

I was able to get together with a friend that had her surgery in Oct.  We have not seen each other for several months and I could not believe my eyes.  Cristina is down to 130 lbs.(she started at 254 lbs) that's 10 lbs past her goal, she is in a size 4. WOW...she looks amazing and is healthy. No more diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea.  I am so proud of her and she has always been a huge support and inspiration to me!  It was fun to catch up and share the good and bad that we have experienced. Mostly all good, and we both agreed that we would do it over again!  Check out our picture!

"Lab Work Came Excellent"

Aug 06, 2008

I just returned from a Dr. Appointment with my PCP. Her name is Dr. Huffman and she is the one that I am most grateful to for suggesting and encouraging me to have surgery.
I had Lab work done last week, and the numbers confirmed my improved health!
Here are some basic results:
1. Total Cholesterol   171 (normal is 100-199)
        before surgery it was 246
HDL  Cholesterol  44  (normal is 40-59)
2. AIC (diabetes test)  5.0  (normal is 4.8-5.9)
        before surgery it was 7.5
3. Glucose,Serum  83 (normal is 65-99)
         before it was 108
4. Before Surgery I had a fatty liver and now it's
     perfect!
5.  I did another sleep study last week for my sleep  APNEA and I never  had a stop in my breathing the whole night.  My machine was set on 12 before surgery, and if you know anything about sleep apnea, that's really high!
She said to go to a really tall building
and drop my CPAP machine off and say
GOODBYE!  I just might do that!

Dr. Huffman was thrilled with my success!  She said to keep up the work and it will continue to add to my life expectancy.  Remember, In September she said I would probably not live to see 50 if I stayed on the same track.  I am so thankful for this second chance at life that God gave me! I am looking  forward to many more years at life!

Bariatric Seminar July 18-20,2008

Jul 20, 2008

We were able to be a part of a wonderful 2 day weight loss surgery seminar.  Our support group hosted a workshop seminar.  Since Sean and I are on the board, we were able to help plan and host the fun two day event. Dr. Monica Ganz, and Jeann Fishback have a company called Make it a Lifestyle. Monica weighed over 500 lbs, and has lost 340 lbs. She travels all over the world and does motivational  and nutritional seminars.  If you have the chance to see her it is well worth it.  She gave me so many ideas and really motivated me. It was good timing for where I  am in the process. I learned a lot about  protein. For weight loss surgery paitents, protein is a little more complicated than just eating "protein". I learned from people who have been successful  "What to do" and lots of "What not to do"... You can check out Monica's website at www.makeitalifestyle.com  check and see if she will be at a location close to you, as well her cruise seminars. Lots of Fun!!! See a photo of Monica, Jeann Sean and Myself

fun to wear jeans....

Jul 20, 2008

So...if you are fat, there are certain things you don't wear, at least certainly things you SHOULDN"T WEAR..(IE..Jeans, tube tops, halter backless shirts, hots pants, etc...you get the point!)

I have a really cute pair of capri jeans, they are a size 18/20. When I first got them, I couldn't even get them up past my thighs.  On Friday night we were going to our  Weight Loss Workshop Dinner. I remembered that I had these in my closet and I thought, they probably won't fit, but I'll give them a try.  To my amazement they fit, in fact they are too big in waist.  What a fun moment!   A size 18/20  that's not  elastic...it's these fun little things that make it all worth it.

before and after

Jul 20, 2008

It's fun to look back and compare pictures.  Last summer I took a picture at a baby shower for my friend Carolyn, It included My friend Vikki, Carloyn and myself. That photo was taken last June. We were at Carolyn's son birthday party a few weeks ago and we took another photo. The three of us together again... When I took a look at the two pictures I was amazed at the change.  Sometimes pictures are the best reminders of the changes in our body.

Wearing a Size Large Top

May 25, 2008

So...my mom sent me a package the other day.  When I opened it I found three new shirts.  The first one was an extra large yellow stripe with a cute ruffle around the neck and sleeves. I tried it on and it fit.  The next two tops were larges. I thought O.K. I'll put these in the closet and maybe be able to fit in them sometime this summer. Just for fun, I tried one on, to my amazement, it fit!  Whoo Hoo. This is a great way to kick off the first weekend of summer. FYI... Before surgery I was wearing a 3X or size 28 tops.  (see photos)
