2nd Fill today....only .25 CCs.

And here we go...

I went to get my 2nd fill today. Since my last fill I'm down 7 lbs. with clothes on.

I hopped on my home scale this morning and I was at 295.

The PA was really pleased so he decided to tweak and add only .25 CCs to the band. 

He asked if I was pleased with the results and I was like "heck yeah". I told him I have a pair of 46 slacks on that I haven't worn in 5 years. I'm really excited and I hope to enter 2011 around the 290 mark or less.

Next appt. is Jan. 27th and I'm looking forward to it.

Finally broke 300.

And here we go...

I hopped on the scale yesterday and I weighed 298 lbs. It's been a long time since i've weighed that amount.

I'm happy about that. I'm looking forward to a nice summer full of actvities.

Salsa dance classes are in the future.

Latest and greatest update....

And here we go.....

I'm down 38 lbs. so far without a fill. I went to the doctor today and he told me I was doing awesome. He was shocked that my appetite hasn't come back so I got my first fill. It was 1 1/2 CC's. I go back in another month and we'll see where I'm at.
My blood pressure was 114/68 and that shocked me. My blood pressure hasn't been that low in years. I'm very excited.

Things are going well. On a personal note, I'm single again. God closes one door and opens another.

Day 36 update.

And here we go...

Things are going ok. I'm looking forward to my first fill Tuesday because I'm noticing I can eat more. Weight wise I'm floating between 318 and 320. I'm trying not be scaled obsessed.

I'm looking forward to the gym this week. I think working out will help me drop some good weight.

Things are pretty quiet which is good. I'll post next week.

Day 29 update.

And here we go....

I feel good. I went out to dinner with a college buddy last night and was able to eat in moderation. We walked up 5 flights of stairs and I didn't get tired until the 2nd flight which is great.

My legs aren't going numb when I stand for long periods of time which is good. I can only attribute that to the weight loss.

I was down 25 lbs, but I've "gained" 4 back. The "4" loss was due to a bad case of constipation. I have never felt that bad and I'll be purchasing some fiber tablets. Once I was able to eat and start having fluids again, the "weight" came back. I'm not worried about it. Clothes are fitting better than ever and I can tell I'm dropping weight.

Tonight my girlfriend and I are going to the Michael Buble concert and I'll post some pics of us.

Day 22 update.

And here we go...

I'm still hovering around the 319 mark. The introduction of more real foods has slowed the weight loss down. I'm not gaining and I'm happy about that. I'm looking forward to going to the gym next month to kick the weight loss into gear again.

I've had a few stuck episodes. I'm learning what I can and cannot eat. 1 or 2 french fries is my limit. After that, I risk getting stuck. I went to my favorite bbq place and grabbed a turkey sandwich yesterday. I used to order a turkey sandwich, fries, and a short end ( 1/2 slab of ribs). Yesterday I could only finish 1/2 of the turkey sandwich. I was amazed. It honestly felt good.

Tonight I made sloppy joes (added 2 cans of sauce in there to make things easier on me), 1/4 cup of green beans, and about 5 oven baked fries. I'll skip the fries next time. 

I feel really good. Lately I've been feeling my port. It's tender, but nothing that is slowing me down. 

On a personal note...next week my girlfriend and I are going to the Michael Buble concert. I'll make sure we take a picture or two and I'll post it on here.

Day 15 update.

And here we go....

Physically I feel good. My energy is returning because I'm staying up later and later at night. A couple of days after surgery staying up until 10PM was a struggle.

I weigh 320. I want 319. I guess for me it's a psychological thing to see 319 after seeing numbers as high as 340 on the scale.

Yesterday was "stuck" day. I had lunch with a friend at Applebee's and ordered the french dip sliders. I had one and about 5 fries. I had to stop because I felt it getting stuck even after dipping it in au jus. I was hungry about 4 hrs. later and grabbed a soft shell taco. After a few bites, it was stuck. About 4 hrs. later, I was at a picnic and grabbed some baked beans and a hot dog. I got stuck again. Part of my problem is eating too fast. It's a bad habit I have to break and I also have to take smaller bites and chew, chew, chew. I haven't had any stuck episodes where the food comes back up, but the bad pain I get in my upper back is horrible.

Emotionally, I'm learning about this new world I'm in. I have this image of myself as this man who can still put away large amounts of food and that's not the case. I was thinking last night that I have "restrictor plate eating" with the band. Restrictor plates in Nascar control how fast a car can go. They use them for safety issues such as minimizing wrecks. I have to understand "restrictor plate eating". I have to get it in my head that the old ways have to go. Smaller bites, healthier choices, and understanding that my tool and I have to work together.

in summary....I have a long road ahead. I will succeed. It will be some trial and error. I have some more back pains I will endure, but it's a part of the learning experience.

Surgery is the easy part. Living life after WLS is the journey.

Day 10 Update

Latest and greatest...

Dr.'s scale registered 325 so I'm down 15 lbs. which isn't bad at all.

Staple removal was easy and they placed some steri strips over the incisions.

My first fill is July 6th.

Things are going ok. Portion control is my thing. I went to a party and fixed a salad plate of food and I was actually satisfied from it. I'm really learning to focus on how much food it is.

I'm hoping I can be down to around 315 at my first fill.

Day 7 update.

The latest and greatest...

I'm down 19 lbs. so far. WOO HOO!!! The scale actually said 320.6 so the math student in me makes me round up to 321. I'll take it. 321 is the actual weight I was back in November 2009 when I started this journey.

I'm healing well. The only issue I've had was trying to progress to solid foods too quickly and pain kicked in big time. I posted a question about stop signals with an unfilled band and was basically told to have a mushy stage despite what my nutritional guide states. The mushy stage will be good. I love oatmeal and things like that so I'll be good. Solid foods will be at least 2 weeks down the road for me. Chicken, brocolli, and I may not get along after the band. I'm learning things will be trial and error for awhile and that's ok with me.

My goal is to be close to 300 by July 1. I know weight loss will slow down with the introduction of more foods so I need to ride this quick weight loss train as long as possible.
 
Next doctor's appt. is Monday June 7th and I get the staples out. The incisions are healing very nicely.

Day 5 update.

Latest and greatest update.

I'm still adjusting to my port. I can feel it more as the days go on.

My weight is 325. I hopped on the scale and i'm down 5 lbs. from Sunday. I have no complaints about the liquid diet at all. It's really working, but I'm looking forward to a "real meal" on Friday.

I have to drive around today and I'm getting a haircut as well. I hope I can handle things and not get tired too quickly.

I've also settled in on the first meal. After hours and hours of reflection, I'm going to make pinto beans with smoked turkey meat. I can give some to my dad as well.

I head to the doctor Monday to get the staples out. WOO HOO!!
