As most of us on this website I have battled my weight since I was a teen. As the years went by my weight increased, I tried every diet on the planet and eventually regained the weight. I hit 230 lbs and decided I needed to do something drastic. I had the lap band put in, in 2004. I lost 60 lbs. but had many complications. I didn't live near my surgeon so if I got a fill that was too tight I would endure it, to the point of developing horrible GERD and vomiting daily. I tried for 8 years to adjust everything but continued to have complications. I found a surgeon that had moved to this area recently, and scheduled  a consultation. He shared with me the high failure rate of the band and how the DS was so much more effective. He had me get a GI done and found my stomach had worked it's way up through the band and flipped over backwards, no wonder I couldn't eat, vomited at every meal and was waking up choking on my gastric juices!!! He did an emergency surgery that same day and removed the band from hell, thank God!!! He said my esophagus was so dilated that I needed to wait a few months to see if it healed enough for me to get this surgery.  I went back to him and have completed all but 1 of my pre requirement testing before they submit to insurance. I am scared to jump on the weight loss band wagon again because I have lived with the very real consequences of "side effects" of WLS and they suck! Since my lap band removal in 12/12 I have gained over 40 lbs in 4 months and my BMI is now over 41... sigh. Wish me luck in my journey and I pray my outcomes are much more positive this time around!
