William Dierberg

"I am amazed how he was able to remove 19 lbs of skin and fat and give me the new shape I have. Seemed like it would be impossible. Update: 7/29/04 I'm almost 2 months PO from my 2nd PS and the results just continue to be amazing. He really is a perfectionist. I have had a little skin sag here and there that will likely need tightening but it's because of the quality, or lack there of, of my skin. It's been so stretched out and it just doesn't have the bounce back it should. It was super tight coming out of surgery but has loosened in a few spots. It still is tons better. So far he has removed 22 lbs of skin from me and lipo'd 4 liters of fat out of my legs in preparation for the skin removal in 4-1/2 months. The legs sag bad but they have a much nicer shape, so I'm actually quite happy with them. I knew they would sag worse once the swelling went down, but it's the long term picture I care about. Dr. Dierberg isn't the cheapest PS around but the quality of his work and follow-up care is well worth it!! Update 11/19/04 I'm 8 day PO from the medial thigh lift and some significant tightening in the upper torso. This recovery has gone way better than I expected as the leg surgery is supposed to be the worst. In my case I truly think the extensive lipo on the upper legs, I had in June in preparation for this surgery, is by far the worst. They were so swollen that I didn't literally know where to put them. Then they got severely black and blue and itchy. It all was worth it and based on what I see at just 1 week PO from the skin removal, it was definitely the right way to go, doing the lipo first. I truly believe it made this surgery much less traumatic. Dr. Dierberg has tightened up the torso and anchored everything deeper, so things should stay this time. He also found a large seroma along the vertical incision line in the torso, which was definitely contributing to the sag in the torso. He has been very helpful in trying to keep his prices reasonable. He understands that starting with the medial thigh lift I am totally self pay, so he has helped in many ways to keep the costs under control. He really is invested in my evolving body and wants to be a part of that and use his God given skills to help me know what it is to live in a normal body! He is definitely one of the good guys! We've gotten to know each other this year and he's friendly and concerned and cares about his patients. He's an hour drive away, which is a pain for follow-up visits, but he's definitely worth the hassle!"

Raymond Georgen

"<font face="Comic Sans MS"> Had an initial consult with Dr. Georgen on 11/27/02. He seems like a very nice, warm caring person. We discussed my particular situation and answered my immediate questions and concerns. His biggest concern is that people understand that the success of this surgery is totally complying with the aftercare program. The only patient he lost was 1 month post-op and due to lack of follow-thru develped a blood clot that went to her lung and died. Other than that everyone has survived surgery. YEAH! He's been doing bariatric surgery for 15 years, so that's a great track record. <p>Dec. 28, 02 - I am a little disappointed in the quality of the approval letter they sent to BC/BS. It lacked any specific detail of my diet history and consequently now my approval is delayed until this information is provided. I did give it to Dr. Georgen when I saw him in Nov. I definitely feel I could write a better letter. Maybe it's because I have worked with BC/BS for so many years trying to get claims paid or pre-approved, that I know what they like. <p>The letter did have good information and references on my co-morbidities. I do feel they should have included a few of my other medical conditions. Whether they would matter or not is hard to say. For some reason they send their pre-approvals to Stevens Point yet they are done in the Fond du Lac office. So this can cause some delays. I will be pointing this out to them so hopefully future patients won't have that delay at least. <p>I truly believe Dr. Georgen is a very skilled surgeon and worth the hassles I am having but some of his main office staff could be a little friendlier when you call to verify information (that his office requested) has been received and they could improve their approval letters in my opinion. <p>3/3/03 - I am one month post-op today and have seen Dr. Georgen quite a bit but not for real serious things just annoying things that needed to be addressed. I have found very easy access to the nurses by phone to ask questions and they always call back if they need to check it out. I had to make 2 calls to the answering service the first weekend I was home and both calls were returned within 10 minutes by one of the surgeons. Anytime I have called with problems - severe diarrhia (3 days) and fluid build-up under my incision they have always gotten me in that day or early the next. So getting the follow-up care you need is pretty easy. <p>I've had a few issues with misunderstandings of how much to eat but that is resolved and they continue to improve the aftercare information they give to their patients. However, it is important to keep asking questions so as to fully understand the program. <p>Overall I have had a very uneventful surgery and very minor problems. I'm sure the skill of the surgeons has a lot to do with how well I have done."

"Good quality care and staff but the facilities could be updated and the rooms dedicated to bariatric surgery modified to serve the MO and SMO patient best."
