Extremley thorough. I feel confident in Dr. Wilcox's hands. Head nurse, Erin, is wonderful and supportive as well.

I met with Dr. Wilcox on 14 Feb 06. He was a very polite, gentle, and understanding man. He asked me a lot of questions about my health and passed experiences with diets. As we talked, he told me that my BMI was at the Morbidly Obese Category and we needed to do something to correct that. And with all of the other health problems that I have, the Gastric Bypass Surgery would be a good way to go. So then he started explaining the process that I would have to start with to get ready for the surgery, the surgery itself, and then how things would be after the surgery. He told me that the surgery is a major surgery and there is, as with any major surgery, the possibility of dying(I think it was less than 1%). He also told me that it was very important to follow the aftercare instructions strictly so that the healing process would be very successful. And if you did not follow the instructions, you could do damage to the surgery and end back in surgery to repair the damage which could prolong your healy or cause death. But I was comfortable with everything that he told to me. I had done so much research on the surgery, that I already had a good idea about what he was going to say. But, the only thing that I did not expect was that I could not go on the waiting list for the surgery until I had completed all of the pre-op requirements, but I was still fine with that. So, after leaving his office, I started immediately setting up appointment to get the pre-op things done. I will have all of the pre-op things done by the end of March. At that time, I will go back to see Dr. Wilcox to do a follow-up and he will put me on the waiting list. I should be able to have the surgery in June or July. But all in all, I was very satisfied with Dr. Wilcox. He seemed like a very intelligent doctor on the surgical procedure and was just a nice person in general.

I was very impressed with Dr. Wilcox and the program at Evan's Hospital. They really make sure that you are educated before you decide to have the surgery right up until after the surgery. Dr. Wilcox answered all of my questions. I never once felt in the dark even now, after my surgery.

He made guidelines very clear and I feel confident I can complete all he set.
The program and guidelines are reasonable and helpful to me to ensure the best outcome for my life change.

Dr. Wilcox is a great guy. Very serious but relaxing. He keeps to the facts and makes sure I understand everything. My father was impressed with him as well.

Evans Army Hospital has great staff and very caring.

The after care program is based on me, I get what I put into it, and they are there as needed, all we have to do is call. The support is outstanding.

My impression of Dr. Wilcox is that he is obviously very comfortable with performing the Gastric Bypass surgery and knows exactly what he is doing. Though I am just currently in the first stage of the Bypass process I feel as though this is a Dr. I can count on. His office staff is very nice and I hope and look forward to getting to know them even better. Dr. Wilcox was very helpful on informing me of the procedure and the possible complications that can arise. He was very careful to tell me of all the things I could do in the mean time that could benefit my surgery from possible complications such as working out, losing some pounds, and no smoking. He did say that he does not perform surgery on people who don't take the responsibility of not smoking for at least 6 weeks before the surgery. I would rate him at about an 8 or 9 but I haven't had the surgery yet so I will wait to give him the highest rating of 10. In closing my opinion of which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or both I would have to say surgical competence is the most important. Bedside manner is a plus but bedside manner does not make a great surgeon. A great surgeon is someone who performs his job with great skill and precision.

I saw Dr Wilcox. He is a Doctor at a Military Treatment Facility. (Evans Army Hospital Ft. Carson. Colorado)Dr Wilcox was extreamly informitve about the surgery. He went over all the good and the bad. I cant say there is anything at this time I didnt like about him. I felt very comfortable seeing him, my husband has been seeing him for a hernia surgery so I kinda had a heads up on his manners. Dr Wilcox expressed aftercare as being extreamly important and that this would be a total life change and habits change. Dr Wilcox addressed all the risks and all the procedures he takes to eliminate them. At this time I would rate him (on a scale of 1 to 10) a 8. I will add My Post op Comment after 10/21 (my surgery date)<br>
I am now 5 months post-op and I have to say Dr. Wilcox was GREAT!

Dr. Wilcox is a great surgeon so far he is very caring and takes his time with you eventhough he has other appointments to get to. He seems to know that this is a time when a person has alot of concern and care and he gives the same treatment to all his patients. He even called last week to reschedule my appoinment and surgery date. I thought that was great. The whole staff is great and just as caring as he is. I just hope the army doesn't transfer him until my care is done. Sally and Marge the receptionists are the greatest and always there for any need whether great or small.

My first impression of dr. wilcox was that he was very forthright about the risks as well as the benefits of this surgery he is also a sweetheart, very easy to be around just a really nice guy.
my impression over time has not changed he is still wonderful and very attentive to how i am feeling as his patient.
i love the office staff they are freindly and very helpful no matter how much of a pest you are hehe.
there isn`t anything i could say negative at this point.
future patients should know that dr. w. will answer all your questions and address any concerns so go in prepared with a list of all your questions and info on this surgery.
overall i would rate dr. w. a 10.
i believe that surgical competence and bedside manner are equally important both have a great impact on your postop success i n my opinion.
