Cottonwood Hospital Medical Center Hospital

The staff was very streamlined. They knew exactly which things the RN did and which things the Aide did and they did not cross over. My only problems were my call light was pulled out of the wall all night one night and I couldn't get any help. That was the first night. I finally had to get up and unplug my IV pump and walk to the door to get someone to help me. And, when the Aide changed my dressing, she put her hands all over the guaze before she finally got it back over my incision. Probably just needs a little more training. I was suprised that the Aides did dressing changes. It was private, quiet, (except when my IV pump went off and noone showed up to fix it) and they were very friendly. I am probably too critical but I have a wound infection at this point so I am just a little concerned.
I showered myself, walked myself, took myself to the bathroom from the very start. Maybe that was the norm but I would have been a little more concerned about my patients getting all those tubes tangled up if they didn't know what they were doing.... maybe they knew that I knew what I was doing... :)

The absolute best thing about this hospital is the people who draw blood. I have had serious traumatic experiences with people drawing my blood. At Cottonwood, there were no failed attempts, no digging around with the needle, no pain!! I told the lab boy that I was coming back every time I needed blood drawn forever!

Well. My room was large and sunny and beautiful. The nurses are top notch, and render very sensitive care. I felt they really cared about me as a person. I wasn't just the "Bypass in room 34". There was one CNA fellow who doesn't want to go on to become an RN, and it showed, but I only had him one shift. The rest were wonderful.
I will say that these nurses must like each other a lot. They could be quite noisy, laughing and enjoying each other's company.

They have a wonderful staff!!! The room was wonderful and when told what we needed they did their best to make sure we got it. I would have my surgery there in a heartbeat. I fully trust them. I only had a problem with one "doctor" he was not acting in a professional maner (more child like) Im sure if brandy was not so drugged up she would have decked the guy. After the first incident with him I only saw him 2 other times and that was in the hall.

I had one great nurse named Lonnie on my last day and one great CMA named Berta on my first day. But the rest of the staff was not great. My son took care of me most of the time. I was appalled at the lack of cleaning in my room. My bathroom floor was dirty for 3 days until my son asked for it to be cleaned. And I dropped a washcloth in the shower on my second day and when I left on the forth day, it was still there.

The nursing staff was VERY responsive to patient calls, coming to the room within a minute when the bell was rung. Even though the unit was full most of the time, it was adequately staffed to meet patient needs.
One little funny experience at discharge. The wheelchair they brought to take me out was too small! And at BMI=42, I'm not one of the really large folks having the surgery. It was smaller than the airline seat I had on a recent trip! I waited for them to bring a larger chair, rather than cram myself in and get more bruises.
