10-26-07: Consultation with Dr. DelaCruz. My weight is 274, and my BMI is right at 40. I was given all the imformation about the various procedures; however Dr. DelaCruz suggested that I not make a decision until I attend the orientation seminar. I immediately when home and talked to my husband. He is concerned that since I just had a hysterectomy last year (9/06); that maybe my abdomen is not ready for another surggery so soon. I explain that the doctor's intention is to do the surgery lap. Maybe he will feel better if he had more information.
11-07-07: Attended the orientation at Cedars Hospital. Received alot of information regarding the surgeries. The most influence on me was there were about 12 former patients of Dr. DelaCruz that had WLS, a few as recent as one month. They answered questions, told their stories; and one lady even showed her stomach. After the meeting I decided on the RNY procedure. I will go home and discuss it further with my husband.
11-08-07: Terry from Dr. DelaCruz office called to give me a surgery date of 11-21-07. OMG I didn't think it would be so soon. It is also the day before Thanksgiving. Coincidentially, my son was born 17 years ago, and because I knew it was going to be a C-Section, I had the option to chose my delivery date and I choose 11-23, which was the day after thankgiving because I didn't want to miss out on thanksgiving dinner. Now, 17 years later, I can definitely miss a meal to start a new beginning.....
11-12-07: Veteran's Day. Since I was off today, I scheduled appointment to get pre-op lab work done, at 10am. Followed NPO instructions, and had nothing to eat all morning, forgot about my scheduled GI test, which is at 1pm, and I still can not eat anything. I did not know I had to drink 2 cups of this awful stuff. But I just kept reminding myself I will e worth it. Got alot accomplished today, blood work, UA, Chest X-Ray and GI test.
11-13-07: Off work again today; Had 3 appointment today. First met w/nutritionist. She shared some very good information with me about my eating habits. I will follow up with her after the surgery. Then I had to travel across town to meet with the psychologist. He basically asked me questions about my expections after the WLS, and had me complete a questionaire with 200 questions. This caused me to be late for my PCP appointment which I had to reschedule.
11-15-07: Met with my PCP, Dr. Junco. I now weight 268 pounds. He had the results from the blood work, etc and he stated my glucose levels were a little high. Everything else is ok and he gave me his blessing.
11-16-07: Received call from Dr. DelaCruz office stating my surgery has been approval from BCBS, however I must come into the office on Monday to pay $190. I was not expecting this at all. I was told at my consultation all the fees that I would be associated with this surgery. This is distrubing. I would have to call the office on Monday and possible reschedule my surgery.
11-16-07: Received call from PCP I need to go back to office to take EKG.
11-18-08: 3 days before surgery. Assuming that everything will work out about the $190. I started my clear-liquid and milk of magnesia diet today. Today is also our anniverisary. My husband is understanding and trying. But this has been a very stressful weekend for me.
