Well, guess who isn't having surgery on Feb. 11th?! If you guessed me, you are quite right. I am so crushed. I can't believe it but NOW Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Missouri is saying that they didn't pre-approve this surgery and that they will not! They claim that it isn't medically necessary! I have a BMI of 44 and weigh almost twice my ideal body weight! HELP!! Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Well, today was the day for at least some of the testing. My sister Kathy and I (we are sharing the same surgery date) went for our pre-surgery blood work, chest x-ray, dietician consultation and group consultation with Dr. Fabito. I really like him and feel that he is concerned about his patients. He took his time to let us know about the surgery and all the possible risks, also took alot of time to answer every question. I have to go in for my EKG and pulmonary function test Thursday. I have a difficult time believing that my "date" is only two weeks from today!! I wish I were already on the 'losing side'. Oh well, I will be there soon enough, now! I was even more impressed with the hospital personnel. Each person that we asked questions of (for directions and whatever else) went out of their way to help us! It was wonderful to be treated so well. If that is an indication of how well we will be treated as in-patients....I think that they might have trouble getting patients to leave. Until next time.....

I don't know that this is an update so much as a clarification. The 28th will be a full day of testing as well as a consultation with the dietician and with Dr. Fabito. All prayers, welcome. I have to say that I am a little nervous about some of the tests. At least they haven't said anything about seeing a psychologist!!

Good luck in your upcoming surgery. I am having surgery with Dr. Fabito also on 3/4/02. I am really excited... and scared too. Will keep you in my prayers and God Bless!
