J. Bradford Doxey
"Dr. Doxey appears to be an awesome man. I've only met him once for the initial consultation. He was informative, caring, nurturing and patient. I asked a page full of questions and he painstakingly answered all of them. When he couldn't answer one he was able to refer me to people who could. He is so involved in this surgery that he set up a support group that have over 60 people coming monthly. I was overwhelmed at the support meeting by the people who have had surgery by him and are in love with his bedside manner. My impression of the office was that it was "swanky". More than the physical surroundings, the people ( who I initally judged by appearance) are wonderful. The receptionist, Susan, is a loving and caring woman who made me feel instantly accepted. The insurance woman, Melissa, is the same way. She will help and answer any questions that arise. I was a bit taken aback by Dr. Doxey's nurse, Susan M., but then it was only one time and I was nervous. I am also a bit afraid of Teresa, the woman who schedules the surgery. Maybe that's because I just want questions answered and she is so busy that I may appear a pain to her. Dr. Doxey says he will see me, after surgery, as many times as I feel the need, but definitely weekly after the surgery for the first month then monthly after the first 4 months. That was important to me, as I didn't want to be left hanging. Future patients may want to know that he is becoming extremely popular and difficult to get in to see. If you are thinking of having the surgery done lap, I'd call now to make an appointment. As for surgical competence and bedside manner: I really need both. We are doing the surgery at Va. Beach General because he likes the team there best. I want him to feel as comfortable as possible since I am going to be "cut". As for bedside manner. I am a people person...I need to connect with a person before I can trust them. He is easy to connect with."
