Wanda S. 21 years, 8 months ago

Wanda continues to improve. She received shots in each knee, and, with the aid of a brace on her left leg, is walking much better. The range of motion of her right arm has significantly increased as we continue cranking. Wanda is becoming more active - bathing and dressing with minimal help. She has even, on a limited basis, began to prepare meals. Although she might not get completely back to her pre-surgery capabilities, we feel that 90+% is easily within the realm of possibility. -- Jack Smart

Hi you two! Glad to hear that things are still progressing well, and that upbeat outlook you both have is still working overtime. Wanda, WOOHOO!! -115 pounds is a great weight loss, and to hear that you are maintaining it is even better. As your activity increases, so will your muscle tone, which in turn will burn even more calories. I hear you on the arthritis pain! That's one thing I didn't count on as a side effect of the RNY - that my arthritis pain would increase dramatically instead if easing up because of reduced strain. I get so stiff and sore now, especially after a long day of yard and house work, and hanging laundry out to dry. We relly save on the electric bill when I do that. My orthopedic doctor gave me a series of injections of Supartz, and it REALLY helped. One injection per knee, per week. Maybe that's something you could ask your doctor about. The shots aren't painful at all. Lately it's been pretty hot out here, hovering in the high 90's to low 100's, but we are finally seeing the beginnings of what looks to be a good SW desert monsoon season setting in. It has rained a little bit for the past three days, giving about 1/4" total. That's more rain than we have seen in a year! Keep us posted on the wedding plans. Let us know where your daughter is registered, as we'd love to send a special gift. Keep in touch. Hugs, love, and peace - Mel, Les, and Boogie

Wanda- I am so glad to hear how you are coming along. We had surgery the same month, you went first, though and have been in my thoughts often since then. You have made it past the Century Club and you're regaining your health and your movement. That's cause to celebrate! I'll hope you post a pix soon.

Its been 8 weeks since the elbow surgery. After a lot of bending, Wanda's range of motion has significantly increased. We hope for more gains over the next few months. Improvment on Wanda's walking is coming slowly because of knee problems (arthritis coupled with the long period of inactivity). Wanda's weight has stayed at the same level for the last six months (115 lbs less than her pre-surgery weight). Her spirits are high and she is working hard in preparation for our daughter's wedding in November. -- Jack Smart

Hello, Wanda & Jack. I have been away from obesityhelp.com for too long now...but I remember Wanda's struggles well and wanted to pop in and check her updates. What a blessing, so much improvement in the last year!

Wanda's elbow is gaining range of motion as she receives therapy at the gym and at home. Once the elbow is back to normal, we'll concentrate on Wanda's walking and balance. Hopefully by that time, Wanda will be able to dress and bathe with minimal assistance. -- Jack Smart

Glad to see Wanda is contiuning to improve. I am going to try to get the site to split this surgery page, its so big that my browser usually times out before it can load, and I have DSL. On dial up this page would freeze for sure. I tried it crashed the computer I was using. In any case est wishes and hope to see you folks soon.
