Ok, since Susan is too busy enjoying her new life, and I'm sitting here trying to avoid work, I figured I'd put an update on here. Susan and I went to the park on Sunday and walked around the Japanese Gardens and had a wonderful time just chatting about everything. She is doing wonderfully....the incision is healing well and she was outwalking me like mad! That woman only has one speed....full throttle! :) We rode the tram and even going over all of the bumps didn't bother her. She says that (now being 2 1/2 weeks post-op) that she still feels some pulling from within, but that she can get around great....just no lifting. She's not enjoying the pureed foods as much as she would have thought....egg beaters is a poor substitute for real eggs! One thing that she has found that is good on protein and satisfying to the taste buds is instant potatoes with fat free shredded cheese on top. Well that's about it....after our 2 hours out we were both beat. I don't know about her, but I went home and took a 2 hour nap to recover! haha

It's Tuesday - Day 5 since surgery! I came home from the hospital yesterday -- more so because I really needed to get some good sleep. The nurses at HDH were great but I woke up each time they opened the door to give more drugs, check blood pressure, temperature, etc. First thing I did at home was take a shower and it wore me out. Today is not bad -- incision site a little sore but I have been able to get 1 CIB in this morning and drinking some water. I have had a moment or two were I've wonderered if I did the right thing but I'm slowly coming to realize that this was the best choice for me. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers and I continue to my road to sucess! Susan

Susan is now doing wonderfully! Her surgery came just in time as her gall bladder was in serious danger of rupturing. It had a gallstone that she would have never passed and was evidently infected. Dr. Hutcher also found a hiatal hernia which he fixed. The epidural pain meds were not working well enough and she switched to the morphine drip that evening. She has been doing really well on the drip except for one tiny bump in the road. The nurse initially gave her the highest dosage on the doctor's range which drugged her so much she was slurring. LOL They cut it in half and gave her toradol for the breakthrough pain which has worked really well. She really hasn't been using the morphine much at all. I was really amazed that she was up and walking the hall the same evening as her surgery! This morning, Sunday, she started on (No sugar added) Carnation Instant Breakfast and was able to get all 3 of them in plus a little juice and water. She had a number of post-ops visit her which I know helps. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers that hopefully her worst few days are behind her, and that it's smooth sailing from here on out!

Susan, Good luck on Friday. My surgery is also Friday, at Henrico Doctor's Hospital. Where is your surgery? I, also, have Dr. Hutcher. He has such a gentle spirit, I know we'll do just fine. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. Cathy Davis
