52 Lbs Gone!!!!! I love my WLS!

Jan 26, 2009

I'm so happy that I decided to get my WLS done when I did because I don't know how I would've survived one more day being unhappy and overweight as I was! I feel more energetic and a lot more confident now.  I'm currently weighing 254 pounds which is awesome for me since my surgery was 10 weeks ago! I am trying to lose all my remaining excess weight and get to about 180 for my b-day which is May 14! Wish me luck

I feel very happy with my surgery and am already at that point where I don't regret my surgery one little bit! At the beginning I was having buyer's remorse but now I feel good about it! I can put on pants and shorts that fit too tight or didn't even fit at all and now they are too big and too loose! Yay me! 2 weeks post-op!

Dec 01, 2008

Ok so I'm now officially 2 weeks post-op and have lost 26 lbs! I'm really happy that everyone keeps telling me how much different I look and my face is getting slim! I still have a ways to go but at least the effort I'm putting into not eating yet is paying off.  I am honestly in a stage right now where I kinda have moments of regret because I am so tired of the damn liquid diet! But in the end I know it will pay off!  On the bad side...my NUT had progressed me to full liquids and told me everyday to make this soup specifically with either chicken, meat, shrimp or lobster.  Add an onion, some garlic and cilantro and 1 type of veggie. So I made the soup ok the 1st time and everything went fine...then the second time I made the soup...the garlic made me sick to my stomach! I didn't use natural garlic and instead used the little cubes that are artificial! Well that was Thursday (Thanksgiving Day) and I drank the soup and an hour later was barfing it out! Afterwards, I felt like I had a giant gas bubble stuck in my stomach and it wouldn't budge! So friday was the same thing...even drinking water was of no use since an hour later I would throw it up again.  So at like 11:30pm my hubby decided it would be best to call the DR and he told me to get to the ER.  By the way, I haven't cheated or eaten anything and I got frustrated bcus the doc kept asking me if I ate a piece of turkey or stuffing! God only knows how badly I wanted to do that but there was no way I put anything in my mouth! Anyhow...so I got into the ER and they got a few blood samples, urine sample and hooked me up to an IV.  Since I was in no pain the doctors ruled out a stricture and just had me stay there for observation.  The following day the doc came by and put me clear liquids and I finally went home Sunday with no nausea and no vomiting! It really sucks that something as simple as that  fake garlic upset my new tummy! But this is a head-up for any of you out there that are new to this as I am too! Oh, and for your own sanity...pls don't do what I did and immediately come on the website and read for complications after the surgery! As soon as I saw that I couldn't keep my liquids down I went to the chat-board and there was someone there was telling me for sure it was a stricture and they might have to do same-day surgery and I freaked out!

17 pounds gone forever!

Nov 21, 2008

Ok so it's been 4 days since my surgery and I have already lost 17 pounds you guys! I feel good and the only thing I'm worried about is being still for too long cus of the blood clots.  I'm not prone to that and have a clean bill of health but I still get really nervous.  The protein is yucky!!!!! But it's for my good.  But I am honestly tired of that chicken broth and I can't wait for Monday when I see my NUT and she'll progress my diet! Also...my belly is super itchy from the stitches! Guess that means they're healing!

all about my surgery!!!

Nov 19, 2008

hey there i just got back from the hospital excatly one hour ago from my laproscopic roux-en-y surgery.  I must say that everything went extremely well and I have no pain.  I read someone's profile before going into my own surgery and she posted a blog stating detailed what happened in her days at the hospital and her surgery.  It all started Monday I had to be at the hospital at 6am and after waiting anxiously for about 30 minutes they called me into the prep room where I had to take off all my clothes, put on hospital booties, a night gown and a hair cap.  Then I layed on the stretcher and was started with an IV in my left hand.  The anethesiologist came around and explained the whole procedure and asked if I had any questions.  At that point I was freaking out and started sobbing like a little girl.  All the nurses were extremely nice and were telling me how everything would come out fine and that I should just relax and not worry about anything.  Finally they let my husband in to see me and literally like 5 seconds later the nurses started wheeling me out of the pre-op section towards to OR.  When the anthesiologist came around to my IV she just told me that the little bottle she was putting into the IV would help to calm my tears and I should relax.  As soon as that lady had pushed the tip of the needle into the IV I felt the whole room go sideways and I was loopy.  I was awake the whole time up until I was in the OR when the nurses moved me from the stretcher to the operating table and then all of a sudden I was knocked out! My family tells me the surgeon came out exactly an hour after I was wheeled in and said everthing came out fine.  When I woke up I was intubated and felt like I couldn't breath.  It was a really weird feeling and I remember feeling like I was choking.  The nurse was right at my side telling me to calm down that I would be that way for until I could breath on my own long enough and then she would take out the tube.  I honestly don't remember how long the tube was in but it felt like an eternity.  As she was getting ready to pull it out she came to each side of the bed and by the way they had tied down my hands so that I wouldn't freak out and take the tube out of my throat.  So she put her index finger and her middle fingers in my hands and told me to grip as strongly as I could.  Then she put something in my mouth and told me to blow as strong as I could.  Apparently it wasn't enough and she went away and came back 5 minutes later.  This time she took the tube out of my mouth and I gagged like I almost threw up.  Then for the next 20 mintues I was in pain and she put an oxygen mask with mist over my mouth.  The mist is supposed to relive your throat from being intubated.  Then I got the pain shot in my thigh and I relaxed quiet a bit.  Next thing I knew, I was waiting for my nurse to have someone take me from recovery to my room in the hospital.  Those people took forever and the nurse decided to take me up himself.  As I was being rolled along we passed a waiting room where all my family was in and they all jumped for joy and followed us up.  When I got to the room I was a little groggy but not completely drugged up like everyone had said.  Over the next three days I only asked for pain meds in the first night that I was there. Tuesday and Wednesday were good and I really did walk...walk...walk...walk...walk.  Even during the middle of the night when I was dead asleep I would wake up and my husband was allowed to sleep in the room with me as it was a room just for us.  He helped me every step of the way and I was walking very well.  They put some booties on my legs that compress your calves one at a time (Think like the blood pressure cuff when it blows up and then empties) it was kinda relaxing.  Thank heavens the nurses didn't have me on heart monitors or that darn machine that blowes up your arm at all times of the day to check you heart rate.  The nurse would come into the room every 4 hours to check for a fever and my blood pressure.  So...they gave me apple juice, jello, water, crystal light and of course BROTH! yuck! I thought the one I drank at home was bad but the one in the hospital was horrible! It didn't hurt my pouch at all when I drank anything...I would swallow little amounts and feel like a little burp was coming up.  It wasn't until today (Wednesday) that I was able to fart.  It was weird cus the gases were at the top of my stomach like underneath my left breast and I had everyone burping me like a baby.  That felt awesome! But then by today I felt the gases shift downwards and it felt like I had to fart.  Every time I walked I let go of more gases and walked a bit faster and with more ease.  The only thing that was painful was at the end when the doctor took out my drain...it felt like he was tugging out my intestines.  It was a long tube according to my husband but the doc took it out with two tugs.  Then I was discharged, given my prescriptions for Tylenol with Codeine and a med to coat the inside of my new stomach and was given a bottle of the protein.  So far I weighed myself and I had started this weighing at my highest of all times which was 306 pounds...now I'm down to 293.  Down 13 pounds in 2 days post-op.  But remember I did liquid diet for 2 days prior to surgery.  Now I swear I don't feel hungry or thirsty but I am drinking chicken broth and cranberry juice.  I have a follow-up with my surgeon and the nutritionist on Monday so let's see how much more I lost and hopefully this post will help you guys that are now pre-op! Take care and God bless!
