Beth,I know how you feel, I’ve used this the CPAP machine for the past two weeks. I do feel as if I’m forced to breathe. It is like you are fighting with the mask all night long, it leaks around your eyes or it leaks on my cheek. Don’t even think about turning on your side!!! Sense I started using this machine I feel much better. It’s just the fact that I have to wear the darn thing. Most of the time I don’t make it through the night, I will take it off so that I can go to sleep, or my husband get tired of the air from that small hole blowing on his back. Once it was sideways on my face the mask was blowing on my cheek hahah. I mean the tech did explained that it would take at least a month before you get use to it. In my case it might take a little while longer. Oh yeah my setting is 6 cm of air pressure the lowest setting is 4 cm. The question I have is does anyone have dry throat in the morning? I find myself coughing and gasping for air if my throat is dry. What up with that? Well all in all I think I will survive.

Hi Beth, it's me again :) Does your C-pap have a dial on the front of it, so it slowly increases the air flow? Your machine should have come with an instruction book too. Anyways mine has a dial on the front, and I had it set on that for about a month. It takes about a 20-30 minutes to blow full out. It should not feel deliberate, it should be like normal breathing. Just keep your mouth shut or it will wind you! Yawning with it on still gets me.. lol that dang combobulatedmesswithmetryingtokeepitonmyheadandfaceatallnightmask... drove me nutso for a while. I wear the thing that holds the mask in place UPSIDE DOWN, with a hair scrunchie(tight one) over the back, and then pull my ponytail through it at night and it holds it down and in place. I have a nasal pillow too, but I find that harder than the mask, cause it forces more air into your nose than the mask, and I feel like I'm blowing up, I can't seem to get used to that one yet. Woohoo I am the first to post on your surgery page! I just wanted to comment on how easy the sleep center did your test there. They were much more strict here in Ohio. First I had to stay two nights, ugh.. first night I had to check in by 6:30 pm and immediately get in my jammies. The only things in your room are, the bed and a small desk, couple of night stands and a fan. No TV, there was one in the TV room and lights are always off there by 10 pm. Except on Thursdays when ER is on.. lol 8 pm hits, and I got wired, and had to sit around 2 hours like that. I was kind of weirded out having a camera in the ceiling.. lol Now I already know I am a lousy sleeper, but to top it off I had to ASK 4 times to get up to go potty. I was sooo tired in the morning when they sat me at a computer and told me to answer an almost 600 questionaire. I was nodding out in the chair.. the second day is set up with a set number (4) of "naps" or 20 minute rest periods, and you are supposed to try and sleep. Well it takes me at LEAST 20 to fall asleep. After the 2nd nap they took my wires off..and all I could think was OUCH and whew.. The one little lady there said, it don't hurt as much if we take them off fast... rriiippp! Yeah sure lady... it's not your face..lol Second night now, about 8 pm, they wired me again :( and I'm fighting sleep but I HAVE to watch ER, it's like the only show I follow on TV. Ok bedtime, 11 pm. I'm tired, the wires are a PITA(pain in the arse) and now they bring in the C-PaP machine and want me to sleep with this booger on, I HaTe anything over my face!!!!! Well I figure now, I'll be home in less that 12 hours I can sleep then! BUT, I slept better than night than I can ever remember now. Amazing! It's been almost 2 months since the study. The Dr hasn't read the results of the test yet, I go on July 3rd for that. But I did get sent home with a C-pap machine. It's a PITA every nite, but now I know I won't die at night from lack of oxygen.<p> Well I just wanted to let you hear about another sleep center place,and another persons' adventure in one leg of this journey of WLS AMOS huggssssss
