Long overdue update!!! All is going pretty well. Some days I do not get in all my fluids or exercise, which is a concern to me so I am constantly working on this! I am down 90# since last July and have lost 50# since surgery on 3/31/08! I feel sooooo much better and I also look better too, which is a bonus. My main concern has always been the health aspect of this surgery, but it doesn't hurt to look better also! I have become more & more comfortable talking to people about the surgery-actually, I feel more & more comfortable talking to people, period! My self-esteem has improved that is for sure! I attended a theraputic support group thru Weight Management Clinic, which I really did enjoy and made some new friends also! I will continue to attend the other support groups offered thru the clinic also. God Bless you all!

Weight at Weight Management Clinic-208
Began pureed stage for 2 weeks, which is more difficult than I thought! I become fuller, faster than with full liquids. I need to increase my protein intake. I also began bariatric vitamins/EFA's. I am able to walk 2 miles per day now (1 mile at a time though)!
04/12/08 Current update
Apr 12, 2008
Well, just an update! I haven't been taking Glucophage (Metformin) or HCTZ (high blood pressure) meds since 3/16/08. My blood sugar fasting is now around 91 and my blood pressure is NORMAL and was normal even in the hospital after surgery! This is wonderful! My only meds right now is regular Effexor 37.5 mg two times a day. After surgery, it made me nauseated, but now it doesn't, as long as I take it after I have my full liquid meal (I wait 1/2 hour before drinking after meals though!). I had extreme "head hunger" yesterday, but this is controlled by keeping busy with a walk or crocheting, etc.

Day of surgery weight-222; Well, surgery went well on Mon, 3/31/08. They have me up & walking about 3 hours after surgery, which was tough, but I did it and then again every 3 hours, even through the night! On Tues, 4/1/08, they did an upper GI and no leaks so I was able to begin fluids. I will admit that I was scared to put anything into my mouth at that point! They took out my catheter & capped off my IV so that was 2 less tubes to tangle when walking! On Wed, 4/2/08, I was discharged about noon, after I took a shower, which felt so good! They also took out my IV and JP tubes. After discharge, my husband & I went to stay at his aunt & uncle's house in Billings. Dr Maier requests that we stay until my post-op check up on 4/8. My kids are in good hands with my in-laws. I am in good hands with my husband! Yesterday was a rough day and I felt nauseated for a short time. Today is much better! I am getting my fluids in and am up to 6 ounces an hour. Tomorrow, I will increase fluids to 8 ounces an hour so I hope to get in the full 64 ounces a day! I have no complaints about my surgery or care in the hospital! I have a wonderful Surgeon and the nurses all were so awesome. THANKS BE TO GOD!!!
Surgery rescheduled :)
Mar 19, 2008
Okay, my surgery is rescheduled for Mon, 3/31/08 at 8:30 am. I have to check into Surgery Plus at St Vincent's at 7:00 am. NPO (nothing to eat or drink after midnight) and going on clear liquids the day before! I was chastised by Dr. Maier's front desk person for "not listening to the surgeon", which wasn't the case at all. I am very compliant with my surgeon and the weight management clinic. I made a HUGE mistake, by not questioning bad advise from the pre-registration gal at St Vincent's! On the other hand, GOD has been looking out for me because I came down with a cold the day after I was suppose to have surgery! There are also many, many other positive reasons :) I am continuing on the full liquid diet and doing well!
Surgery postponed :(
Mar 17, 2008
Well, St V's Surgery Plus asked me to go in early for surgery because they had a cancellation so my husband & I arrived at 11:00 am, which was 2 hours than scheduled before. I got checked in and the nurse asked me if I had anything to eat this morning so I told her that I had a protein drink at 6:00 am, which the pre-registration nurse had said was okay. WELL, IT IS NOT OKAY!! Dr. Maier postponed my surgery. He says that even if my surgery was at 3:00 pm, I was not to have anything to eat or drink after midnight!! I was even in my gown when he told me!!! This just stinks big time. It is looking like the soonest they can reschedule is 3/31. ARGH!!!!
3/17/08 day of surgery
Mar 16, 2008
WOW! The day is here! I will be checking into Surgery Plus around 1:00 pm and then surgery after a little while after that (sounds like around 2:30 or 3:00). All is well here on the home front! My daughter (age 9) is very worried about me, but we have talked a lot about everything. My son (age 7) may be worried, but doesn't express it at this time. My older son (age 23 as of 3/16) will hopefully be at the hospital with me & my husband. He is worried, but okay with everything. He seems to understand. I will get back on here as soon as possible after surgery! I will be in Billings for a week and then home again.
