Dana, Congratulations on getting your date! Many warm wishes and prayers for a safe journey through surgery, a quick and pain free recovery, and many months of weight loss followed by a lifetime of good health are being sent your way. This surgery has been a miracle for me, may it be the same for you. {{{HUGS}}}

Dana, nine months after my surgery. I am down 130 pounds. My blood work comes back great every time. I have been taken off all diabetic meds. I have not had a back problem in almost a year after years of back problems and back surgery. I have been on depression medications for 15 years, now they are cut in half. I walk a mil to 2 miles every day. Before, I could not walk 2 blocks. I ride my exercise bike 5 miles a day and do arobics at least 5 times a week. Healthy? You bet! Perhaps I am not the medical boards dream girl, but compared to what I was a year ago, I am doing great! I have a friend who is 5 years out and she is doing great! Don't let anyone rain on your parade. You will be healthy if you do what you are suppose to do. Period. Good luck to you. Pam German http://pgerman5047.tripod.com/

Dana. I can undersatnd about the family thing. I did tell mine tho (and prepared myself for the negativity) but lo and behold they didn't say much against it. I think mom was kinda against it at first by the few things she said but as I researched and talked about it she began to learn more and became more supportive. Now (post op) she has become one of my biggest supporters. Also from other people it seems all you hear are the negative or "horror" srories but I also see this when my sister had her babies and my other sis now preg. Seems many people love to scare the bejeeses out of new mothers-to-be and anyone having surgery LOL> Aren't people weird....Anyway. You must do what is right for YOU. Not everyone may be for it but until they walk in your shoes...hey maybe your decision will spark intrest in this surgery for your over weight family?? Anyway I wish all the best on your journey. Jamie (10 weeks post op and down 60 lbs).

DANA~~ There are many health care professionals that have not embraced the idea of gastric bypass... She doesn't know all the facts- WLS is recommended by the National Institute of Health, the Mayo Clinic, C Everett Koop and many others as the ONLY way to lose weight and KEEP it off... (you can check my profile page for more information about those medical professionals. This is YOUR decision to make and no one else's. So just keep putting one foot in front of the other and taking your life day by day. There's a brighter tomorrow that's just down the road. Don't look back.... you're not going that way!

Dana last sunday when I got home if I had read your post I would have said you were crazy, but as time passes and I start improving (lots) I say do what you want to do.. if this is something you need then just take what is said shut it behind a door and keep the good stuff and lock it in your heart.. if this is for you then you have to take charge..
