My name is Debra. I’ve struggled with my weight most of my adult life topping at 355 in 2007. I started researching weight loss surgery about 5 years ago and recently decided it is the right choice for me. I’ve spent countless dollars trying almost every diet in the world but with no lasting results. I’ve completed all of my pre-op work and I am now waiting for approval from my insurance company for the surgery. Besides diminishing my health problems, some of my greatest goals are to walk through the mall with my daughter w/o having to sit each time we come out of a store, ride on a roller coaster with my children, sight see with my husband and basically live an active lifestyle. Making the decision to have weight loss surgery was a hard one for me. One because of all the negative feedback I’ve received from my siblings and my dad, two because I’m afraid what my co-workers will have to say and three because I’m afraid of what the changes will bring based on media attention I’ve heard about shopping addiction & etc. An ex co-worker, who had the surgery recently, referred me to the Obesity Help website. She said I will find many resources here to help me as I take this journey. I look forward to getting to know many of you and utilize your experiences.
