Icky, Part Deux

Oct 28, 2004

I have not updated in awhile. I have been constantly nauseated for about a week now. It started last Thursday when I got some chicken stuck. I made myself throw it up. Now I have such an irritated tummy that I can't stop feeling sick and I often feel like someone has been punching me in the tummy. I have gone back to soft and crispy foods and no meat until I feel better. Tuesday I had another episode where after I ate I had the "Foamies" and was upchucking mucus. Not fun my friends!

On top of being sick, I haven't lost a pound in 10 days. So here I am fat and miserable and feeling bad. No where I wanted to be. Please pray that I feel better soon. I see the nurse at Dr. Clark's office on Tuesday maybe she can help me. I'm taking half a phenergan every 5-6 hours. It's the only thing that seems to help me but it does make me super sleepy.

5 weeks out...are you bored with me yet?

Oct 12, 2004

Well I'm 5 weeks out and have lost 37 lbs. I lost 4 lbs in 1 day. It was probally water weight from my cycle, which was the worst I've ever had. All those hormones being released are going crazy.
I'm doing good with food. Lately chicken does not agree with me. Steak is better, especially if it has been marinated. I've got my protein up to 65 grams a day and I'm doing well with water (60-80 oz). I find if I start the day with something warm like tea, that I have an easier time handling food for the rest of the day.
I do have a favorite snack that is great for those who miss crunchy and salty food. Utz makes Soy Crisps and they are fantastic. 60 calories, 4 g protein in a serving. they make White cheddar and Apple Flavored. I love the cheddar. They make a great snack and are great for dipping.

Here is a typical food day for me at 5 weeks out.
First Thing: Hot Chai Tea with Sweet-n-low -5 oz
EAS AdvantEdge Cafe Carmel Protein Drink (11oz)-15 g Protein
Breakfast:2 oz of Steak -18 grams protein
16 oz of Tea/Crystal Light
Snack:Mozzerella Cheese stick-8 g protein
16 oz of Tea/Crystal Light
Lunch: Chef's Salad (4 oz)- 7 g protein
16 oz of Tea/Crystal Light
Snack: 10 Soy Crisps, 4 g protein
10 oz pure water
Dinner: 1/2 of a Low Carb Lean Cuisine- 9g protein
16 oz of water

60 g protein Average

32 pounds in a month...what the Heck!

Oct 04, 2004

Had my One month Check up today. I'm at 269. Dr. Clark says I am doing well and I agree. He doesn't think I have a hernia and says once the muscles on the left abdominal wall heal, the bulge should disapear. It could take months though, oh joy!. I can tell you that 32 pounds has really made my panni hang more. Looks like I'm gonna be shopping for some support garments this weekend. I have already been able to get into a pair of size 24 micro-fiber shorts this weekend and they fit. Not even tight. I was pleased. I also lost a shirt size and can easilt wear a 18/20. Lost 2 bra sizes and my shoes are already smaller.

My hubby is now working shift work again, which sucks. I especially hate Swing Shift because our son won't see him for a week at a time. I'm trying to get my weaving business up and running, working on building up my inventory. I'll sell on ebay first and then try going to festivals and SCA events. I mostly do tabletweaving and I'm looking for a used 4 harness loom, as my other one is not big enough for making wide fabrics. I might actually build one, it's much cheaper plus I can customize it.

I am now released to eat most things I want. I'm aloud to eat salads (At least the dr. said I could) but I need to eat one bite and wait to see if I can handle it. I hope so, cause I've been dying to eat one for weeks now.

2 months Postie..is that like the cousin of a Post-it?

Oct 02, 2004

had my 2 month post op appointment with Dr. Clark's Nurse Nancy Ritchie. I adore her, she really takes the time to listen to your problems. Still ahving problems with meat. Just the thought of chicken makes me gag. Looks like I need some alternative sources of protein. She wants me to see the nutritionist. I go when I get back from Massachussets in a couple of weeks. The good news is I am still loosing at a good rate. I had a 11 pound loss for the month which according to their charts has me above average. I really was hoping to make it to 255 by now, but at least I'm still loosing.
My goal for the next month is to step up my exercise and get a minimum of 70 oz a water a day. 800 calories a day as well, but that will be more difficult to reach. I just don't like food anymore. Wow! who have thunk that I would hate eating.

Icky, I feel Icky, and really really Icky.

Oct 01, 2004

I haven't been feeling well for the past couple of days and yhe place on my stomach where I had my g-tube is bulging. I'm afraid I might have a hernia. It's also very uncomfortable sleeping, I have to be careful when I roll over. I think I might have been pushing it with the housework lately. When I see Dr. Clark on Tues, I'll have to ask him about it.

For those who are interested in what you can have on the Puree/Soft Diet here's a list of things I've had. Your doc may or may not approve, but it can give you an idea of the variety of things you can have.

*Cottage Cheese, String Cheese, Low Fat Cream Cheese
*Pureed or very moist Beef, Chicken, pork, ham, turkey, Lamb
*Low Sugar Gravy (McCormick Makes the dried kind, add water, 1 g carbs. Nacho Cheese (If you tolerate fats)
* Moist fish, Minced Shrimp, Minced Scallops, Crabmeat
*Creamed Soups, Campbells Veg/Beef, Clam Chowder (chew Clams Very Well or skip them), Beef Stew, Turkey Chili, Egg Drop Soup
*Yogurt, SF Pudding, SF Jello (I add low sugar whipped cream)
*Angel Hair Pasta, Low Mein Noodles (I don't have a prob w Pasta)

Eating Out on Soft Diet:
Taco Bell: Pintos and Cheese, Rice and Cheese, Potatoes & Cheese. Stay away from Taco Salad, it's full of fat.

KFC: Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Baked Beans

Wendy's: Chili, Baked Potatoes

There are not too many other Fast Food Place, That I can think of. When going out Soup is always a good choice, especially at Olive Garden or Ruby Tuesdays.

3 Weeks out and counting

Sep 29, 2004

Well, I'm officially 3 weeks post-op and I feel fantastic! My incision is a little itchy, but that's just part of the healing process. I have my one month post-op appointment with Doc Clark on next Tues. Even though I have weighed at home, I'm curious to see what his scale says. My scale says I lost 35 lbs, I think that's wrong so I'm gonna take off 5 pounds, so I can say I lost 30 lbs.

I started power walking. I do around a mile a day, I'd like to get to two miles a day by next week. I'm also going to join the YMCA on the 10th and sign up for the water fitness classes. I love swimming and being in the pool. My hubby doesn't have to pay the sign-up fee because he gets a discount through work.

Right now I'm doing ok with food. It's hard to get all the protein and water you need in a day. Here's what I am typically eating on the puree/soft diet.

Early Morning(7-8am):
EAS AdvantEdge Cafe Carmel Protein Drink -15 g Protein, 11 Fl OZ
8 Ounces of Peach Tea or Crystal Light
Breakfast(10-10:30):Cottage cheese with SF Jelly or Pineapple
Snack:1 Ounce of Shaved Ham/Turkey, 1 Melba Toast Round
8 Ounces of Peach Tea or Crystal Light
Lunch:1 Stick String Cheese,Deviled ham on a Melba Toast Round
8 ounces of Tea or Crystal Light
Snack: SF Jello/SF Pudding with Light Cream (2oz)
8 Ounces of Tea/Crystal Light
Dinner: 1.5 oz of meat/poultry, 1 oz of mashed Veggie or Legumes
8 ounces of Tea/Crystal Light

I average 400-500 Calories, 35-20 g of Carbs, 45-60 g of protein
I try to 50-64 oz of fluid. It's hard. I seem to trade off between meeting my protein needs or meeting my fluid needs.

14 Days Out...Looking Good

Sep 23, 2004

I'm 14 days post op. Down to 279 from 301. I had my g-tube removed yesterday. Thank god, that thing was killing me. I had to get my hubby to put padding around it to keep it from moving.

I feel really good. I still get tired easy but I have a lot more energy and have been walking my dad's dog twice a day. I think I'm up to about 1 mile a day. I think the dog is beat before I am but he is a miniature pinscher.

Going to see Heart in concert tonight in Portsmouth. I am interested to see how much more weight Ann Wilson has lost. To me she really does not seem to have lost that much weight with the LapBand. She has one of the best female voices in rock and I can't wait to see her, it's gonna be a blast!

It's official, I'm a looser...

Sep 11, 2004

Well, I'm 5 days post-op. Feeling ok, very tired. I seem to sleep a lot. It seems like everything on the liquid diet is very sweet tasting, soup is the one thing that seems to satisfy me. It's really hard trying to get all your water and protein in, but I'm sure it will get better. Dr. Clark was wonderfull, he came in to see me every morning. Gosh, is he an early bird. He comes in to see you at like 6 am! I wonder when that man sleeps.
He did a beautiful and extremely small 3 1/2 inch incision. I feel very lucky to have him as my surgeon.

Had my Pre-op Tests

Aug 24, 2004

Well Yesterday I had my pre-op admissions testing at the Careplex. The hardest part was waiting around for them to call my name. The tests were a breeze. They took a medical history and filled out all my paperwork so all I have to do is show up the day of surgery. 5:30 A.M. !!

For those curious here's what I had:
1. EKG - The LPN said that mine was normal but they have a cardiologist look at it for abnormalities.
2.X-rays- Front view and Side view of Chest and abdominal region.
3.Took two vials of blood
4. Weighed me (YAH FUN!...NOT!)

The LPN gave me all the literature and surgeyr instructions and gave me a clean catch kit for a pregnancy test the morning of surgery.

Well, today will be fun. My son's sixth b-day is today. We are taking him to Chucky Cheese. There's a reason I only go there twice a year. Mainly I can't stand a lot of noise. Fortunately it's WED. and Not Sat.

Getting Closer!

Aug 16, 2004

Still smoke and nicotine free it's been 5 weeks. I feel good. The only time I crave a cig is after dinner. I do feel as though I am eating everything it site. UGH! I gotta stop eating sweets! Well, tommorrow I have my three hour pre-op class. My hubby is taking off to come with me. It's finally hitting me that I'm actually doing this. I'm not scared, just anxious to get it done! I've waited a long time. I am ready for my new life as a healthy and thinner person!
