Three days to go

Oct 30, 2006

Today will probably be my last day to get stuff done because I have to do the bowel cleanse thing tomorrow and I've heard that's not fun.  I can't believe that some people don't have to do it OR the fasting thing.  But, Dr. Schauer is one of the best, so I'd rather stick with his protocols.  This fasting diet has been rough, but I can see the reasoning behind it and that makes it easier. When I come home from the hospital, I'll be prepared to continue the diet and my husband will be used to be sitting and sipping broth while he chows down on his dinner.  To be post-op and start a new regimen would be really difficult.

I honestly just want to get the surgery over with, get home, and get started on my journey.  I've only heard one bad review about the Clinic's bariatric program.  Everyone else seems really high on it.  I think the person who gave it a bad review wasn't prepared for the surgery, had a lot of other health problems and probably would not have liked any place she went.  For my own sanity and stress level, I'm going with the people who gave the Clinic an "excellent" review.

Seven Days to Go!

Oct 27, 2006

At this time next week I will FINALLY be post-op.  This is a process that started a year ago with a trip down to Akron General Hospital in Akron, Ohio.  This doctor had just started doing bariatric surgery, the department was new, and his staff, although nice, was pretty much do-nothing.  I'd still be waiting if I'd stuck with them.  I am getting a little concerned although not as terrified as I will be next Friday on my way to the Cleveland Clinic.  The good part is that it will finally be the end of my two week, liquids-only fast!  At least after the surgery I will not be as hungry as I am now, if at all from what I've heard.  As they are putting me under, I will be thinking about cutting my own toenails, sitting in the bathtub and not having my breasts resting on my huge stomach, going to Christmas parties and (I hope) being a few pounds lighter at least, and all the other good stuff that will come along as I continue this journey.  I am so thrilled that my husband is supporting me in this.  It's like I am his little project.  With his support I know I will be OK at home, and with Dr. Phil Schauer as my surgeon, I know I'll be OK at the Clinic.
