I attended my informational session today! Bariatric Solutions - Greenville, SC. I was excited but had more anxiety. There were 5 people including myself at the meeting. 2 people had a support person with them. We met Kim, Program Coordinator and the "shrink" Dr. Spearman. Both were very nice. When Kim called us back the first thing we had to do is weigh! UUUUUuggggggghhhh! Why is that always the first thing you have to do. Well once we weighed, there was a print out that included our age, weight, BMI and other stuff. We went into a conference room and sat around the table waiting for Dr. Spearman to come in. He was very nice. Very opened and really put my mind at ease. One thing that I like about him was how he used analogies to help us understand that we have an addiction and it needs to be treated as any other addiction. After the informational, Kim came back and talked to us about Program enrollment and insurance. She told us we could go home and think about it and call back to set up an appointment to pay our enrollment and get our packet of information. Well I DID IT!!!! I signed up today. I have my first psych appointment on March 17th. I didn't need to do a whole lot of thinking. As Dr. Spearman was talking, tears just filled my eyes because I realized being over weight I'm not only hurting myself but if my life is cut short, although none of us know how long we have, I'm doing a great injustice to my family and friends who love me so much. My brother signed up for the program and has attended a couple of support meetings. I read his information this past weekend so there was really nothing to think about. I'm looking forward to this experience and with God's help, I'll be healthier in no time.
