That is horrable you would think that it is our body and when the timming is right for us why do they get to decide what they feel is right? Saying all of that I hope by chance of LUCK someone cancels for the sleep test and they call you tomorrow, I had the battle not od doctors or insurance that was way easy, mine was the battle of the HUSBAND and BEST FRIEND. Him for the obvious reasons that was taken care of thanks to this site her its not so easy because God forbid but if something goes wrong she gets to help with my kids and she already has 2 of her own blus my 2 and she is only 23. But bEST of LUCK to you and my prayers are with you. Nicole.

Kelly, I too am severly depressed and found myself wanting to sleep all the time. i could not wait to get home from work and go to bed. I slept 12 hrs on weekends then took little naps in the afternoon. I had a slepp study and found out I had sleep apnea. i have a cpap for two week now and can not tell you the difference. i slep 8 hrs and am fine i no longer take naps and do not go to sleep as soon as I get home form fwork. The mask is a very hard adjustment but I sellp so good now. What i thought was my depression was also sleep apnea. i still take prozac but the apnea was contributing so much ore. Good luck in your journey hope you fel better soon Love Chrisy d

Kelly, I have suffered from Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and degenerative arthritis of my hips. These are the main reasons that I chose to have this surgery, after researching it for a couple of years. Since my surgery in July (only 7 months ago) I have lost just about 100 lbs, no longer take 3 of the meds I was on for the diabetes (I still take one, once a day, and the doctor told me today that another 20 lbs. and I won't need it anymore, based on my bloodwork) I no longer take Celebrex for the arthritis and I have so much less pain when I walk, and I no longer need my blood pressure meds, or my cholesterol meds. My bloodwork (which I got today) is all NORMAL. I am amazed at the miracle of this surgery. Just remember, only your mom can decide in her own time whether or not to consider this option, and if she decides she does not want to, that is her personal right and decision. You can only give her information and let her make up her mind.

Kelly, If you are approved by you insurance it is for that certain Dr. If you want it somewhere else I would suggest finding a dr close to where you want to be before you try to get approved. Best wishes, Tamara

Hi. Usually when you get approval, it's based on who sent it. But your insurance may be different then mine. I have to get approval for where I am going and for the surgeon. So once I have one picked out it's either or I have to reapply. Best thing to do is call and get the details from your insurance.

Hi Kelly - Just read your Message. I don't know where your city is - so how close are you to Flint? Flint's Hurley Hospital is a Trauma II hospital and handle every emergency and trauma cases there are. Their Bariatric Paints are kept on the Burn unit so get very good care and if anything goes wrong - they have a Trauma team to help you. They have great Support Groups. I've heard that the BTC's are strictly Bariatric and are not equiped for emergencies and will ship you to another hospital. I have also heard they don't have good after surgery/ follow-up care or Support Groups. I am going to Hurley and my date is 3/26/03 - maybe you should inquire there just to see. They handle your insurance problems too. Good Luck-- Sally, Harrison, MI

Kelly, I read what you said on the message board, and I thought that I would let you know that for me, you hit the nail right on the head. I love people...all people, but people who are thin and beautiful make me feel so self consious! So, dont feel bad about that! I remember when I first was diagnosed (wrongly) with PCOS. I went to their website, and tried to talk to all these other overweight women about my boyfriends reaction to me and my weight, and, all they kept saying was "leave him, he has no right to ask you to lose weight, he has no right to not love you just the way you are" WELL BLAH! I dont believe that, how could he possibly love me the way I am when I am killing myself??? I did not get it, and so left the site. I think that what I am finding here is that women and men have realised that there is something wrong, and they are willing to do something to change it. I commend you on your choice, and I wish you all the best. Hallie Miles
