I swear I was born overweight. I can't remember a time in my life that I have not been obese. I weighed 313 pounds when I married and that was the last time I saw that number. I am one of those people who have truly tried everything - some things I tried just weren't successful and some I sabotaged. You know you have reached desperation when you try Optifast twice and each time you end up sick and on in bed for two weeks. I did manage to loose 70 pounds with Weight Watchers and kept much of that off until I became frustrated when I couldn't loose anymore. I started this process 6 1/2 years ago. My insurance at the time approved me, but the hospital I worked for was self-insured and chose to override the approval. I changed jobs and insurance and there was no coverage. After excepting my current position, I waited 6 months before exploring the option with the new insurance. They had the coverage option but it required the initial precert request, then the denial, then months of following precert requirements. Finally, three weeks ago, I was put in touch with an amazing Case Manager named Sue who helped me finalize this process and receiver authorization for surgery. So here I am 36 years old and 363 pounds. My back hurts; my knees hurt; I can't sleep; I have no energy; and I hate all of this. I cheer my sons on at every sporting event they are involved in, but I want more. I want to be able to participate in things with them. I want to feel better. Now I have been given that chance and I am looking forward to the future.
